Term 1 Week 1

From The Principal

Welcome back to another exciting year at Terara Public School! Usually the summer holidays are a time filled with fun and relaxing activities, which unfortunately was not the case for a large portion of our families these past two months. The bushfires have had a massive effect on our South Coast communities, and there is more information below on what our school is doing to support our students as well as how you can help your children in these times. Our school is here to support you and your family, so please talk to your class teacher if your family has been affected by the fires or you are concerned about your child's wellbeing.

Our teachers have been busily preparing their new classrooms these holidays so that they can continue to deliver the engaging quality education that Terara is known for. Our teaching staff this year is:

  • Mr Watt - Relieving Principal
  • Miss Cooper - 5/6C
  • Miss Nebe - 3/4N
  • Miss Daley - 1/2D
  • Miss Gould - K/1G
  • Mrs Wilson - Learning and Support

Our school also welcomes back:

  • Mrs Mazengarb - Student Learning Support Officer (SLSO)
  • Mrs Muller - SLSO
  • Mrs Mustapic - SLSO
  • Mrs Wright - SLSO
  • Mrs Horner - School Administration Manager
  • Mrs Hiscox - School Administration Officer

We are very fortunate to again have such an energetic and dedicated staff!

Notes for parent teacher interviews will be going home soon, but do not hesitate to make contact with your child's classroom teacher if you would like to discuss your child's learning needs before the interviews take place.

Our education focuses for this year will be highlighted in future newsletters. For now, enjoy your first week back and I look forward to seeing you all at school over the coming weeks.

Bushfire Support

These past few months have seen devastating fires rage through our country, and closer to home, our beautiful South Coast. Large scale distressing events impact our communities in many ways and have been unsettling and stressful for many students within our area.

To support our students during this difficult time the Department of Education has provided our school with additional counselling services. Over the next week, a counsellor will be at our school assisting our teachers in discussing the bushfires with their classes and talking to small groups of students who need additional time and support.

If your family has been affected by the fires or you are concerned about your child's wellbeing, it’s important to discuss your concerns with their teacher so that we can best support them within our classrooms and take advantage of the additional counselling services offered to our school.

The NSW Department of Education is working with NSW Health to monitor and respond to the unfolding international Novel Coronavirus situation.

The NSW Government has requested that children who have visited China in the last two weeks not attend school or childcare services until 14 days have lapsed from their date of departure from China.

The Department of Education has also advised that students should not come to school if they have:

  • a confirmed case of Novel Coronavirus
  • had close contact with a confirmed case of Novel Coronavirus

If you have travelled to China in the last two weeks or have had close contact with a person who has a confirmed case of the Novel Coronavirus, please keep your child at home and inform the school.

Equipment List

Each year, students are encouraged to bring in their own equipment to allow them to work independently and take ownership and responsibility for their learning. Please note that all items must be labelled and that some may need to be replenished throughout the year. Thank you for your support and cooperation.

Bus Book - Update Details

Our bus book has been wiped clean and is ready for a brand new year. Please contact the school office if you rely on the bus book to make sure your child knows how they will be getting home each day. This will help ensure the book is up to date and our students travel home the right way.
