Term 4 Week 8

From The Principal

We are in the final weeks of the 2019 school year and we have a jam packed schedule, as usual. This Friday at 9.15am, our candidates for school leaders in 2020 will present their speeches, and the students will cast their votes. Those elected as captains and vice-captains will be presented with their badges at our Presentation Night on Monday, 16th December at the Nowra School of Arts. The Presentation Night is also where we recognise the achievements of our students and celebrate the great year we have had. We are hoping to see all students and their parents/carers and extended family members at this special event.

We will say goodbye to our Year 6 students at the Year 6 Farewell, which will be held at Terrara House on the 12th December. Year 5 & 6 students attend to celebrate the graduation of our Year 6 students from primary school, and wish them well in high school and on into the future. We are all very excited about this year's venue and we are looking forward to a great night.

Our annual talent quest is also coming up soon. It will be held on the last day for students (Wednesday, 18/12/19) and gives the students an opportunity to develop an act and perform to an audience in an informal, relaxed setting. Parents/carers are welcome to attend.

Our final Kindergarten Orientation for students beginning school in 2020, will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, 3/12/19. Students will attend class for the morning and join the rest of the school in the playground during recess to familiarise them with school and give them a taste of what they can look forward to next year. We are all very keen to welcome our newest students to our wonderful school. I look forward to seeing you all at one or more of these events over the next few weeks.

Terara Talent Quest

The annual Terara Public School Talent Quest will be held on the last day of term, Wednesday, 18/12/2019. Students from K - 6 can audition for the talent quest and should rehearse their act before their audition.

Performers may be singers, instrumentalists, comedians, magicians or dancers and may perform solo, as a duo or as a group. Singers should have a backing track or live music, rather than trying to sing over or along with a recording artist.

Auditions will be held at lunch times and will begin next week. See Mrs Sansom to enter and to arrange auditions.

Jervis Bay School of Music Student Concert

Students who have been taking lessons with Alfi or Lily from the Jervis Bay School of Music will be entertaining us with a concert on Thursday, 12th December, starting at 2pm. Parents/carers and other family members are welcome to come along and join the audience to enjoy the talented performance.

Australian Government Contribution to Canberra Visit Costs

Our students greatly enjoyed their tour of the national capital and learnt a great deal during their visit. Students were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government contributed funding of $20 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

Bring Your Own Device Notes For Year 4

Last week notes went home to Year 4 students about how our Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program will be continuing next year so students can participate in 21st Century learning experiences. If you have any questions about this program or need any advice on purchasing devices please do not hesitate to contact the school and speak to Mr Watt.

Froggy Draw Winners

Congratulations to the winners of last week's Froggy Draw - Charlotte and Sunni.

Online Safety Guide For Parents

With technology and online trends constantly changing, we know how hard it is to keep up with what is happening for children and teens online. The Australian Government's eSafety website has an excellent guide for parents to help you keep your kids safe, and we highly recommend you take a look to get the latest and most reliable advice. The link below will take you straight to the parents tab.

Find advice for parents and carers to help children have safe, enjoyable experiences online.
