Scotts Head Public School Newsletter

Term 2 | Week 1 | 28 April 2020

Principal's Column

Hello, Giinagay, Hai

We are all in this together!

I wish to thank you again for the support you have shown over these difficult times. Our staff have been in discussion on how we move forward and continue to meet the learning needs of our students both at school and remotely as well as balancing the health and safety needs of all staff in line with Health Department guidelines.

The Department has developed a long-term plan for managing the return to school. The plan is phased, and flexible, allowing us to slowly bring schools back to normal while responding quickly to new spikes in transmission if they occur.

Phase 0 – From Wednesday 29 April we will continue remote learning for all students. For the next 8 school days, families are encouraged to keep their children home whenever possible. This remote learning continue through the same applications as Term 1.

All classes except 4/5 will have packages for the next two weeks ready to be picked up tomorrow (Wednesday). Year 4/5 received their packages at the end of Term 1.

Phase 1 – In Week we begin Phase 1 of the staged return to schools. The timetable for the students in week 3 is included in this newsletter. On their designated day each class will have structured learning facilitated by their own classroom teacher. Learning from home will continue on the remaining days of the week.

From Week 3 – Monday 11 May 2020 classes will return as follows:

Monday – Kinder & Year 1/2

Tuesday – Year 2/3/4

Wednesday – All students learning from home

Thursday – Year 4/5

Friday – Year 5/6

Our canteen will remain closed until further notice.

The support of our parent community has been outstanding, you have been doing a truly remarkable job of providing students with remote learning with a positive attitude.

I’d like to thank my dedicated team who have worked tirelessly to design and deliver this home learning to you. They have done an amazing job in a very short space of time and their levels of creativity and support has been inspiring to witness.

The situation remains fluid and is dependent upon Department of Education and Government information. I will continue to endeavour to make our school a safe and healthy place for staff and students.

Thanks, yaarri yaraang, terima kasih.

School News and Parent Information

Thank you Crina for showing us Jarrah's Kanban board

Here is our example of Agile project management on a Kanban board for kids ?

Jarrah can choose the task he feels like doing next, and move it from the To Do column to the Doing column, and then to Done when he’s finished. He doesn’t have to do every task each day, but he does most. We also do cooking and watch science shows on ABC Me ?

Virtual Book Club - Due by Friday 15 May

The link below will take you to the Virtual Catalogue.

HAVE FUN LEARNING INDONESIAN! (Nikmatilah belajar Bahasa Indonesia!)

This term, Pak Mur is teaching three new Indonesian songs across the school. It is a great way to practice the language with authentic texts and really improve pronunciation. Here are the links to the songs for anyone who want to try some karaoke at home!

SONGS ON YOUTUBE:

1. Ambilkan Bulan  - Kinders https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YpiyMvDsAOc

2. Jangan Takut Gelap - 1/2 and 2/3/4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0P0Nmymwog

3. Bento - 4/5 and 5/6 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WktT8bZGAtg

And for any students who are new to the school and would like to try some extra activities to catch up, try the free website or App called 'Languages Online' by the Vic government. It has heaps of songs and games to learn the basics like greetings, numbers, colours and talking about friends and family.

LANGUAGES ON-LINE: https://www.education.vic.gov.au/languagesonline/default.htm

Class Dojo's

All classes across the school are communicating with students and parents via the app DoJo. This will be our main source of communication with parents and we are aiming for 100% of students being connected this way across the school. Everyone should have got instructions in their student packages on how to set this up on your device.

If you need some help setting this up, please contact the school.

Is this your bike?

This bike was left at school last term, does it belong to you?

DIGITAL LINKS to TALK, READ, SING, RHYME, DRAW and PLAY EVERYDAY FROM HOME

Talk – Use these sites to describe, question, guess, compare, explain, marvel, choose.

  • Talk about all the exhibitions.
  • What do they think the items are?
  • Who might have used them and what could they have been used for?
  • What colours can they see?
  • Count and sort items in groups.
  • Which are their favourites?
  • Have they seen anything like it before? When? Where?
  • What are the animals doing?
  • Why do they think they might be doing that?
  • What do they like to eat?

Don’t worry too much about facts. Let language flow and imaginations run wild.
