Term 4 Week 6 Newsletter - Friday 18 November 2022

PRINCIPAL’S THOUGHTS

Messages from Mr Dill

2023 Planning

Our planning for 2023 is well underway. We are finalising our school evaluations next week and are starting to allocate the school’s funding that was released last week. Our evaluations have led us to allocating some further resources towards mathematics, differentiation and implementation of new syllabus documents.

In 2023 teaching staff will be provided additional time for engaging with the new syllabus documents:

  • 5 hours per term for classroom teachers
  • 1 day per week for Assistant Principals

In addition, time for professional learning this term has been allocated to engaging with the new syllabus documents.

School Run For Fun

On Friday 25th November the colour run organised by the P&C will be held at Taplin Park. This will be a great time for everyone and I ask that you support this initiative to raise funds for the school.
The colour run for classes in Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 will commence at approximately 11.15am and finish at approximately 12.30pm.  The children will then return to school.
The colour run for classes in Years 3 & 4 will commence at approximately 12.30pm and finish at approximately 1.15pm.
Year 5 & 6 classes will start the run at around 1.15pm and finish at 2.00pm before returning to school. All students will be attending the colour run regardless of the number of sponsors they have secured or funds they have raised.
Students will wear mufti for the day including their joggers and a non-school hat. They are invited to bring a white T-shirt if participating in the colour spray, part of the run. Students are asked to wear block-out, bring a small excursion carry bag, with recess and a bottle of water to drink. All students will eat their lunch at school before going to the colour run.

We hope everyone has a great time next Friday.

Principal Awards

As we approach the end of term, if students have 5 values awards that can be traded up for a Principal's award, or 3 Principal's awards that can traded up for a Principal's badge please hand them in before the final assemblies for 2022.

The final assembly for primary students is Tuesday 29 November and the final assembly for infants is Tuesday 6 December.

Outstanding School Expenses

A sincere thank you to every family that has supported the school financially this year. This has enabled us to provide quality programs and learning resources for the children. As we approach the end of the year we now need to balance the books!

To this end, families with payments owing will be sent an invoice outlining any overdue amounts. Your support in finalising school accounts before the end of November would be greatly appreciated.

School Community Charter

The School Community Charter outlines the responsibilities of parents, carers, educators and school staff in NSW public schools to ensure our learning environments are collaborative, supportive and cohesive. For your interest, I have included a copy of the Charter in the newsletter this week.

FROM THE DEPUTY'S DESK

Student Use of Digital Devices

We seek your support in assisting your child to demonstrate their responsible use of technology at school. On arrival to school, students are to turn off their phone/device and store in their school bags until the end of the day. Watches/bands with communication capabilities are not to be used during school hours.

Devices can be used again after school, outside the school gates. Exceptions to this are in place for students waiting on school grounds to catch the bus after school where parent contact is required.

Should a student need to contact a parent or carer during the school day, they should ask their teacher or the admin office for permission to use the school’s phone.

During school hours, parents and carers are asked to only contact their children via the school office.

Student Learning Partners

In the coming weeks we will be asking students in Kindergarten to Year 5 to indicate 4 students they would work well with next year.

In forming classes, teachers will try to include 2 to 3 student choices in each class. This is to support students in the initial stages of transitioning to new classes next year. Even so, we are wanting students to have the opportunity to develop the skills to make new friends and to work with different learning partners each year and in doing this build their confidence and resilience.

Tell Them From Me Parent Feedback Survey - Closes tonight

Have your say!

Please click on the link below to have your say on all things Drummoyne, including feedback on how we can improve the school.

We would appreciate as many of you as possible completing the survey by Friday 18 November.

Class of the Week - 1C

In their recent 'Perspective & Argument' unit, class 1C have been learning how authors use cause and effect to influence the reader and their emotions. To explore this further we used three texts that looked at the effect of pollution on our planet.

As a result of our learning, we were then able to express our opinions on this very important issue.

Please look at our posters and writing on display outside Mrs Colb's office.

COVID SAFETY UPDATES

  • Students, staff and visitors to the school are encouraged to wear masks.
  • Wearing of masks on buses and transport to and from camps and excursions is strongly encouraged.
  • Staff and students are encouraged to maintain up to date vaccinations, including COVID-19 booster shots for anyone eligible.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Year 6 Market Day - Wednesday 30 November

Year 6 students are busy planning a fundraising Market Day to be held on Wednesday 30 November. There will be a variety of stalls where students will be able to purchase food such as: sausage sizzle, cupcakes and milkshakes; souvenirs such as: bracelets, bookmarks and a lucky dip;

as well as activities like basketball shooting, water balloon throwing, and a dance competition.

To purchase things at the Market Day you first need to buy tokens. All items and activities will cost between one and three tokens. Tokens are $1 each and will be sold as packs of 5 or 10. You can buy the tokens through schoolbytes. Tokens will be distributed to students on the morning of the County Fair.

Look out for posters around the school advertising the stalls and start thinking about what you might like to buy at the Market Day.

Thank you for supporting the fundraising efforts of Year 6. The proceeds will contribute towards our Year 6 Farewell and a gift to the school.

Nude Food Days every Wednesday @ DPS

The SRC will be holding a Nude Food day on Wednesdays in Term 4.

Simply put, it’s food without excess packaging. Usually, this means food that is not processed, often making it a healthier and more environmentally friendly option. It could include food packed in containers or wrapped with reusable wrapping.

Students with 'nude food' will receive a token towards becoming the champion class.

2023 school travel applications are now open

A new application will need to be submitted if they are applying for the first time, or if they are requesting an additional travel entitlement as a result of a new shared parental responsibility situation (e.g. joint custody). Students who change address, school, campus location, have repeated a year or received an expiry notification from Transport for NSW for their school travel entitlement should renew or update their details before the end of term 4. This will ensure that schools can endorse applications, and entitlements remain valid for the start of the 2023 school year.

Students in the Opal network applying for an Opal card for the first time will receive their Student Opal card at their nominated postal address. Cards will be mailed out from January 2023.
