Principal's Message

Dear Families,

Welcome back to Term 3.  I hope that everyone had a safe and restful holiday.  The winter weather has been amazing the past week.  We had frozen puddles all the way to afternoon recess earlier this week and a hot air balloon landed on a frosty Lords Oval this morning.

Employment Opportunities

We are advertising for a staff member to join our incredible office team 2 days a week.  Any questions can be directed to Amanda Olver 5775 2325.

Our cleaning contractors are also looking for staff.  They have some flexibility around times (evening or early morning) and days.  If you know someone who might be interested, please contact me by phone or email and I will link you with RP Facilities.

Ninja Warrior Playground

Our Parents and Friends have been raising money for a Ninja Warrior Course over the last couple of years.  Thank you to all those families who have contributed.  Construction of the course is scheduled for August 8th.  A huge thankyou to Mick Davis who has prepared the site this week (around all his other work) and to Clint and Caitlin Riley from Mansfield Temporary Fencing who have helped us out with the fencing for the next couple of weeks.  A new playground is really exciting, I’m sure it will get lots of use.

Attitudes to School Survey

Every year our Grade 4, 5 and 6 students complete the Attitudes to School Survey.  Students answer questions about their school, their wellbeing and their learning.  Students completed the survey at the end of last term, and I have looked through the responses with each year level to get their feedback.  The kids had some interesting insights.

Grade 5 and 6 Camp Opportunities

Our School to Summit program offers our students amazing opportunities throughout primary school.  Our Grade 5 and 6 students also have access to some extra outdoor programs.  This year we have 3 programs that students can be involved in:

·         Somers School Camp: a 10 day camp on the Mornington Peninsula for grade 5 and 6 kids.

·         Young Men Old Mountains: a 5 day expedition for grade 5 and 6 boys.

·         Women of the Wild: a 5 day expedition for grade 5 and 6 girls.

·         15 Mile Creek Leadership Camp:  a week long leadership camp for grade 6 kids.

We often have more students interested than places available.  A note will go home next week with some more information.  Students will be able to nominate which programs they would like to attend and, if there are too many applicants, names will be randomly selected.

Mansfield Sports Stadium

Over the holidays Richard Stevenson installed a set of gates which allow students to access the stadium across the laneway (between the school and the stadium).  This means that students can now use the stadium basketball court at playtime.  An extra staff member is on duty each play time in the stadium.

Like always, please get in touch with us with any questions or concerns.  Call or email your classroom teacher, call the front office, or email me tom.macmunn@education.vic.gov.au.

Have a great weekend.

Take Care,

Tom

Prep to grade 2 Cross Country

On the 17th of June, the prep to grade twos went to the Botanical Park to compete in the Cross Country race. All the kids walked to the park and sat down with their bags and waited for the year sixes to tell them when to start.

The prep girls were first to start and when the horn blew, they were gone, running as fast as they could despite the grey and cloudy weather. The grade six marshalls directed the preps towards the finish line and when they finished, they almost collapsed.

Soon the prep boys ran. The other year levels were getting impatient, so they all ran down to the oval, and the grade sixes started a game. The year ones and twos weren't really listening, and they all started to chase the year sixes, but all had a good time.

After the year ones ran the year twos got ready and raced. After everyone was packed up, we went over the bridge and walked back to school through the bush trail.

All and all everyone had a great day. Even though the year twos had a lot of rain to deal with, they had a great time and never gave up.

STATE CROSS COUNTRY

Congratulations to Jack Clydesdale for competing at the State Cross Country on Thursday 14th July at the Yarra Valley Racing Club. It is such an amazing level to achieve and a great opportunity to see some of Victoria’s top runners in action. Unfortunately Zali Hopkins and Rachel Mercieca were unable to attend this day, but I am sure they will be back next year!

Well done Jack and congratulations on achieving such a high result!!!

Bastille Day

Bravo! to everyone who participated in making the French day a success this year. I spotted some amazing outfits and displays around the classrooms during the day.

Fantastique! Madame Farnault

Book Drive for Classroom Libraries

 We want your books! 😊

During the first 4 weeks of Term 3 we are running a book drive to help us build interesting, varied, rich classroom libraries that our students can access during all reading sessions at school.

If you are looking to clean out any fiction or non-fiction books suitable for students of any primary age, we would love for you to donate them for use in our classrooms.

Book donations (only books in good condition please!) can be left at the front office.

If you have any questions, please contact Dean Bush on Dean.Bush@education.vic.gov.au

Thank you – in advance! 😊
