Principals Report

Dear Parents & Guardians

Welcome to Term 3, we hope everyone has enjoyed the holidays. I am currently on leave until next Monday 19th July. During this time, Danielle Kemp will be Acting Principal.

Building works, Playground and Carpark:  The building works are underway with much of the old senior building being removed in preparation for the new works. Temporary fencing has been set up around the area and part of the car park to allow construction access and the safety of the school community. To reduce the constriction of car park traffic, parents are asked to ‘drop off and pick-up’ children quickly. (NO HANGING AROUND THE PLAY AREA). If you need to visit a teacher or the office, please park outside the school grounds.

St Vinnies Winter Appeal: Thank you for your generous support. Many baskets of food and other items were handed over to the local St Vinnies. This will be of great help as they work to support those in our local community.

District Interschool Sport: Today our grade 5 and 6 students have enjoyed competing against other schools in football, netball, soccer and t-ball.

Swimming final lesson: Our final day of swimming has been rescheduled to Monday 19 July. Full details have been provided to parents via the Operoo permission request. Sports uniform is to be worn on this day with bathers underneath, please ensure your child brings a towel, change of underwear and goggles if required.

Operoo Permissions: Please ensure Operoo is checked regularly and permissions are actioned in a timely manner. If you receive a text reminder of an Operoo permission outstanding please action it that day to allow the form to be closed and excursion planning to be completed.

Parent Teacher Interviews: Tuesday 20 & Wednesday 21 July: These will be held between 3:30pm and 8:00pm and are a great opportunity to discuss your child's progress, bookings close Monday 19 July at 10am. Please see link to bookings below if you have not already booked.

Friends of St John’s Meeting: This meeting has been rescheduled to Friday 23 July 9:00am in the staff room. Please come along if you are interested in supporting fundraising efforts for our school. We are currently looking for a new School Banking Coordinator - if you are interested please contact the office.

NAIDOC Week- Last week: 4-11th July was NAIDOC Week. The NAIDOC 2021 theme – Heal Country! - invites the nation to embrace First Nations’ cultural knowledge and understanding of Country as part of Australia's national heritage and equally respect the culture and values of Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islanders. Each class is going to participate in classroom activities to celebrate NAIDOC Week this year such as exploring the significance of our St John’s Acknowledgement of Country which can be found below...

We respectfully acknowledge, and pay our respects to the Elders of the Kulin Nation, both past and present, as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which St John the Baptist Catholic Primary School is situated.

Danielle Kemp, Acting Principal

Junior News

It’s the start of Term 3 and there is a lot happening at St. John’s. There is no doubt you would have noticed the major works for our new building are well underway. On Monday Junior students were taken on a tour of all the new pathways and areas around the school to be aware of.

This Term, the Junior students will be switching their Arts class from Performing Arts to Visual Arts. This lesson will run on Friday’s during the Term, switching with STEM which will now be held on Thursdays. Students thoroughly enjoyed PMP in the first semester but this will now be coming to an end to make time for some exciting new activities!

In Inquiry this Term, students will be exploring the subject of Geography, through the lens of the Olympic games. Identifying places in which they live, and in which others around the world live.

Lastly, please remember that Parent Teacher Interviews will be taking place in Week 2. This will be your opportunity to discuss your child’s Mid-Year report and consult with teachers on how to support your child this term.

Senior News

Welcome back to Term 3, we trust you’ve had a restful break.

Once again, we have a busy term ahead with lots to look forward to starting with 5/6 Inter School sports today! We also have the Winter Sport competition running this term on most Friday afternoons, culminating with Lightning Premiership Day later in the term. Winter Sport is always a highlight and after a year off last year, I’m sure the kids will be rearing to go.

We can also start casting for our whole school musical ‘Madagascar: A Musical Adventure JR’ which will hopefully be performed to a full audience without restrictions in Term 4.

Our swimming make up day will be happening next Monday, the 19th of July so it will be nice to finally conclude what has been a wonderful program.

In the classroom, this term our inquiry topic is Geography. We are excited to start maths groups again and all students in Grade 3 – 6 will be participating in Speech Writing in order to compete for a place in the Lion’s Speech Competition in September.

Exchanges will be processed on the next uniform shop day.

For Uniform ordering through CDF pay—Visit https://stjohnskwr.cdfpay.org.au  or scan QR Code. (Guidelines for setting up your CDFpay account can also be found on Skoolbag).
