From the Principal

Student Success:

Congratulations to our PSSA netball team who competed against Valentine recently. Although the girls did not make it through to the next round, they played a magnificent game and showed outstanding sportsmanship.  Well done, girls!

SRC Fundraiser:

Congratulations to our Student Representative Council for their organisation of the out of uniform and cake stall day last Friday. They raised $1058 for flood affected schools on the North Coast.

Mother’s Day Afternoon:

Thank you to everyone who came to celebrate Mother’s Day with us recently. The students and teachers enjoyed providing the afternoon of pampering for the special women in the students’ lives and from the smiles we saw, the Mums enjoyed an afternoon of massages, make up and hair styling as well!

NAPLAN:

This week is our second week of NAPLAN assessments for Years 3 and 5. The students have been doing a fabulous job completing the assessments online. Results will be sent to schools and parents at the end of Term 3.

Blackbutt Excursion:

We wish Kindergarten and K – 2 Support Unit students well as they attend their first excursion for the year to Blackbutt Reserve. We are sure they will have an amazing time and look forward to hearing about their adventure when they return.

Walk Safely to School Day:

Walk Safely to School Day is this Friday 20th May. We encourage parents to park their car a little way from school so they can walk to school with their children.

Hunter Water Show:  "Let's love Water"

Next Monday afternoon (23rd May),  our K-2 students will enjoy a Jollybops Science show provided by Hunter Water in the school hall. This face paced, energetic performance educates children on ways to save water and look after this precious resource.

Disco:

Our first P&C disco will be held on Tuesday 24th May. K – 2 will boogie the afternoon away between 5:30pm - 6:45pm and Year 3 – 6 will show us their moves between 7pm - 8:30pm.  There will also be a sensory disco between 1:55pm – 2.55pm for those students who won’t attend the afternoon disco because of sensory needs.

Author Visit – Dr Cameron Stelzer, The Story Doctor

On Thursday 9 June, we have a special visit from Author and Illustrator Dr Cameron Stelzer. Dr Cameron is visiting Warners Bay Public School to run workshops with our K-6 students. Kinder and Year 1 students will enjoy an interactive Big Screen Book Reading with Cameron. Year 2-6 students will be taking a behind-the-scenes look at creating a book, and applying their own creative components. Students and teachers are looking forward to a great day!

In conjunction with the Author Visit, Warners Bay PS families have a special opportunity to purchase signed and personalised copies of Cameron’s books at special prices. Individual books are $15 each and there are also exclusive book sets available. Students will receive an order form on the day of the workshops. Forms and payment can be returned the following morning, to the Library.

Time is being spent during library lessons introducing students to Dr Cameron’s books but if you would like to explore his work, have a look at his website:  Dr Cameron Stelzer.

Walk Safely to School Day

On Walk Safely to School Day, primary school aged children are encouraged to walk with their parents, or caregiver, to school.

This encourages healthy habits as well as teaching vital road safety skills. Now in its 23rd year, the annual event has joined forces with National Road Safety Week to further draw the spotlight on road safety and support the importance of regular walking.

While walking to school may not be realistic for some families, there may be another option for you.

  • Consider contacting some families close to your home and arrange a ‘walking train’ where some parents might like to lead a group of kids walking to school on Friday. Don’t forget to take a photo and send it through to us!

  • If you have to drive, perhaps park the car a few blocks away from the school and walk the rest of the way.

  • Take the time to talk about road safety and staying safe.

Our school PBL Mascot, Millsy, will be dancing and waiting at the Mills Street front gate on Friday morning from 8.40am to greet students and hand out some stickers to promote walking to school!

We look forward to seeing you there!

Canteen

The canteen is looking bright and fresh after recent renovations.  The Right Bite is now open Mondays, Wednesday, Thursdays and Fridays and will also be available for recess sales from next Monday 23rd May.

Due to the Mini-fete being held this Friday (20th), it will be lunch orders only on this day.

Croissant Day is on Monday 23rd May with all pre-orders due back this Wednesday.  Croissant Day Order Form

School Hats

School hats were previously available for purchase through the school canteen on behalf of the P&C if the uniform shop was not open.  Moving forward, the surplus hats will be kept in the office.  As our uniforms are managed through P&C, please ensure you make payment to the office in cash as we don't have access to their eftpos machine.

SRC Update

A heartfelt THANK YOU to our families who rallied together to support our Term 1 SRC leaders in raising funds for flood affected schools in northern NSW. We raised an amazing $1058! Miss Hall is currently in talks with schools and we look forward to a special presentation later this term.

Our Term 2 SRC leaders are currently working on a very special project. One of our long standing teachers will be recognised for his enthusiasm, service and love for all things Warners Bay Public School. Generations of students and their families have enjoyed learning about bushrangers and local history from this special person…. More details to come! Stay tuned.
