TOKSAVE - Term 3 Week 10, 2022

Lihir International School and School to Mine Campus

Principal: Mr Gregory Neville

Deputy Principal LIS: Ms Catherine Langusch

Deputy Principal STM: Mr Kevin Collins

From the Principal

Happy Independence!

I would like to wish all students, staff and wantoks of Lihir International School / School to Mine Campus a very happy 47th anniversary of Independence! Thanks to our National teachers, parents and wantoks who prepared our Independence Day celebrations.

Holiday National Exam Preparation

There are only a few weeks until our students sit for both the Year 10 and Year 8 National exams. The next few weeks (including the holidays) should be a time of focus and preparation for these students. I ask that parents / carers monitor students' screen time (mobile phones, tablets, TV etc) in the lead up to the exams. Too much screen time can easily distract students during this important preparation period.

Resumption for Term 4

Term 4 school resumes on Monday the 3rd October.

School Council Meeting

There will be a School Council Meeting on Thursday, 13th October, commencing at 6.00pm in the year 9/10 classroom. This meeting is for School Council members.

Please make an appointment to see the principal if you have any concerns or queries.

Regards,

Mr Greg Neville

Happy Independence Day!

From the Deputy Principal (STM)

Happy Independence Day!

This week the Work Ready Program trainees completed Week 6 of their program and have commenced writing cover letters and their Curriculum Vitae for employment positions. They have also been practising for the Independent Day celebrations. I’d like to thank them for their professionalism in preparing for this special occasion and for sharing some of the local Lihirian culture with our school community. Please also see our final Trainee Profile attached in this week’s Toksave.

Over the two-week holiday period, our Divine Word University lecturers will be here delivering the final two weeks of face-to-face lectures to our Bachelor Upgrade primary school teachers. We wish them all the best over the next few weeks and also with the final semester of their assessment and look forward to sharing their successful completion toward the end of this year.

National Exam Preparation Classes will continue over the holidays. Please note there will not be any classes this weekend due to power outages but students who are on the island are expected to come the other 2 weekends over the holidays as per usual. There’ll also be some weekday lessons with Ms Yip as per the letter that has gone home to parents.

Our FODE students and Elementary Teachers from across Lihir continue to work on their distance education with the support of our STMC Staff.

Please note the Kisim Save Library is open for use by all Newcrest Employees and Townsite Residents. Please email SchoolToMineCampus@newcrest.com.au to book a time to come.

Regards,

Mr Kevin Collins
