Dear Community
As we finish off Week 3, students are starting to engage in more and more whole school activities here at Scarborough PS.
- This afternoon we have started practicing for our Sports Carnival which will be held in some format in Week 9. We hope that in the next newsletter, we will be able to give you some further details as to what our ‘Carnival Week’ will look like this year such as a timetable for events and in what capacity we will be able to have parents on site as spectators or helpers, so stay tuned! Until then, we will be practicing hard at our team games and individual events every Friday afternoon. Please encourage your children to wear their faction shirt on Fridays.
- Classes have also started to undertake activities for Science Week. By the end of week 5, each class will have sent home links and login details for you to be able to view your child’s class project in a digital format. Please remember that this experience is just as much about the process as the finished product.
- Each Friday we are holding ‘on air assemblies’ over the PA. Merit awards are announced, messages are given from school and student leaders and children have the opportunity to sing the National Anthem. This week, I would like to congratulate Room 1 and the Art Room on achieving a Golden Bin certificate for their outstanding efforts in correct recycling procedures. This means that they have practiced correct recycling for a period of at least 10 weeks. Well done!
After school procedures
Unfortunately, as per yesterday’s Skoolbag notification, I once again need to stress the importance of leaving the school grounds promptly at the end of the day. No families should be staying to utilise the play areas or any part of the school site. Everybody should have vacated the site by 3:20, unless they have a prearranged meeting with staff.
The presence of families on site after school this term has started to negatively impact on school operations in the afternoons on almost a daily basis. The increase in numbers of people now accessing the school site in the afternoons is now making the situation untenable.
Whilst we understand the positives of community catch-ups and play opportunities, this can no longer be done on the school site.
Please respect our community by adhering to this request.
Voluntary Contributions
Over the next few weeks you may be receiving a statement regarding the annual voluntary contribution. We understand that this has been a disastrous year for many families and don’t want to place any additional pressure on families, however, we are asking that you consider paying this voluntary contribution if you are in a position to do so. Thank you to those families who have paid previously; voluntary contributions are an important part of our budget and go towards making sure our school is well resourced with books, technology and other materials to help us deliver a quality education to your children.
2021 Enrolments
This week, we sent home acceptance letters for students who will be joining us in Kindy and Pre-primary in 2021. I am pleased to report very healthy numbers. We will be welcoming many new families to our community along with many younger siblings of existing students.
We are now starting to work on our staff and class structures for next year. If you are aware that you may be leaving before the start of next year, could you please let the office know so that we can consider this in our plans.
Please read on below for more information on happenings around our school, in particular, information from our wonderful P&C who also have some exciting things in the works for us this term.
As always, if you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to contact me
