Message from the Principal - Mr Denis Graham

Dear Parents and Friends of the MTCS Community,

Week 2 allowed us to continue to settle into good routines and establish practices to make the year a successful one both academically, spiritually and socially.  This week I draw your attention to two matters.

Afternoon Dismissal Arrangements

We continue to make minor adjustments to our afternoon dismissal arrangements. These changes are based around 2 fundamental points:

  • DUTY of CARE. Our teachers are assigned a duty of care for your children from 8:15am until 2:45pm. So therefore we aim to achieve an efficient end to the day where children can be safely transferred to parents (or OSHC) at 2:45pm.
  • MAXIMISING TEACHING & LEARNING. We must maximise our teaching and learning time. The adjustments made to dismissal arrangements and the number of whole school assemblies (now only one on Friday) are both based on that need.

    • The minor adjustment now see the opening of the school gate (on the office side) at 2:45pm instead of 2:40pm.

    • OHSC students from lower primary will assemble in the lower primary reading room at 2.45 and be walked by OHSC staff to their area.

Kiss and go students assemble at the ‘kiss and go’ gate on the other side of the lift to meet the duty teacher

Parents continue to have the important option of collecting children from outside the classroom.

Early departures i.e. pre 2:45pm need to notify the office

    Parents and Friends Meeting

Over 30 enthusiastic parents gathered for our first Parent and Friends meeting for 2020.There was a display of enthusiasm to build on the success of previous years with many ideas brought forward in the 4 areas of Social, Cultural, Pastoral and Environment. Please take time to read the minutes attached below.

     Regards

     Denis Graham

    Acting Principal

School notices !!

Student absences- If your child is absent from school, please advise the front office via phone/email or Skool bag before 9:15am.  Primary carers will receive an email notifying them of the child's absence if we have not been notified.

Student Birthdays- Due to student allergies, if you would like to celebrate your child's birthday at school, please DO NOT send cupcakes or baked goods. If you wish to send something in for your child's class to share, icy poles are a great option.

Contact Details- Has your family recently changed your address? Have you changed your phone number, place of work or postal address? Please contact the front office with your updated contact details.

Week 4 celebrations !!

Next week marks four weeks of fabulous teaching, learning and community spirit at Mother Teresa. As a thank you to our students, Mr Graham and Mr Wilson will be visiting two classes per day and delivering icy poles to the students. We’ll cover the entire school and ELC over the course of the week. Then on Friday, 21 February, students are allowed to wear casual clothes with a gold coin donation, as a way of kick starting our Year 5/6 Canberra Camp Campaign. All funds collected will go towards supporting our families in sending students to Canberra in November. We look forward to a fun and exciting week ahead.

NUT AND EGG FREE ZONE !!!! IMPORTANT

If you wish to help out/volunteer in the classroom or school- you must hold a current ochre card. If you have not provided the office with a copy of your card, please do so asap. If you have not yet applied, please follow the attached link to the Safe NT website.
