St Mary's Bulletin

Term 3 - Week 1 (24 July, 2020)

From the Principal

Dear St Mary's School Community

Welcome Back

Welcome Back to Term Three!  I enjoyed hearing all the children’s stories about their holiday adventures and experiences.  They are all certainly looking refreshed and ready for a big term of learning!

Sacramental Program 2020

The 2020 Sacramental Program will recommence this weekend and next with Commitment Masses for those children who are receiving the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist this year.  We keep those children, their families and teachers and Fr Andrew in our prayers.

PD Days

The staff participated in Professional Development with St Joseph’s Southern Cross to end Term Two and begin Term Three.  The PD at the end of Term Two was about assessment and feedback in the classroom in relation to the Literacy Collective.  The PD on Monday was faith-based and presented by Sr Maree and Sr Moira – they explored the history of our two schools and the charism of St Mary McKillop of the Cross.  Sr Maree and Sr Moira spent the day at St Mary’s School on Wednesday meeting the children and sharing with them the story of Mary McKillop and the value of Christian meditation.

Change to Calendar

Due to COVID19 restrictions in the Church, the Year 5/6 Mass to celebrate the Feast Day of St Mary Mackillop of the Cross on Friday, 7 August, has been changed to a whole school liturgy beginning at 10.00am in the Undercover Area.  All parents are welcome to join us – the 2m2 rule will apply for adults and seating on the lawn will reflect this.

Collgar Community Fund

Congratulations to Mrs McDonald for securing a Collgar Community Fund Application for $250.00 to use towards the Bush-Play Regeneration project.  Mrs McDonald and the Year 5/6 class will be using the funds to plant trees in the Bush Play area so that the space can be used for future St Mary’s School students.

Greenbatch

Congratulations to Mrs McCormack who has secured a grant from the Container Deposit Scheme to purchase bins to do some more recycling within the school.  She has also been liaising with a company called Greenbatch who do a similar type of recycling.

These are all exciting projects linked to our school’s focus on Sustainability.  Thank you to Mrs McCormack and Mrs McDonald for their hard work to secure these grants and for the follow up work and commitment to the associated projects.

P&F Dinner

Thank you to the P&F for organising such a lovely ‘thank you’ dinner at the end of last term for all the staff in gratitude of everyone’s efforts during the remote learning period.  The three-course meal was delicious and the staff felt totally spoilt.  A special thanks to Mrs Demarte who did the cooking!

Book Club Brochures have been sent home with students and orders are due by Friday 31st July.

Apologies for the delay on receiving the Term One and Two Book Club orders. Your understanding and continued support is greatly appreciated.
