Message from Mrs Ellis

Before and After School Care

Today, we say goodbye to the Blaxland Public School Scoosh as we know it. This has been an invaluable service to the school community providing outstanding programs and care for many of our families since 2018.  Our onsite out of school hours care service was established by the hardworking P&C executive led by Steve Smith and Ian Baines. Together, Ian and Steve put in their own time and effort as volunteers to set it up and keep it operational over the years. This service has become a much needed and greatly valued part of the school community. Our school coordinator Dianne Gray has been successful in applying for a new position and we wish her success and happiness in her new role. Unfortunately, the Blaxland PS P&C had been unable to find a qualified suitable candidate to replace Dianne and in addition the viability of the service was at risk given the reliance of parent volunteers to manage the service. The P&C exec made the difficult decision to cease the operation of the service. We will miss Dianne and we thank her for always coming to school with a smile and providing outstanding programs and care for our students and families.

On Monday 5th December, we will welcome Fun Kids Blaxland as the Before and After School Care Provider for Blaxland Public School. Jones Mi, Director of Fun Kids has met with me, and the P&C exec and we look forward to working with Jones to ensure quality before and after school care continues at Blaxland PS. For the last two weeks of this year, Fun Kids Blaxland will continue to be in the existing room as Scoosh but it will move into the hall in 2023 allowing the school to access an additional learning space if needed. Jones Mi Fun Kids will be providing vacation care at both Glenbrook PS and Mount Riverview PS in January and our families are now eligible to use this service if needed. Please read the attached flyers for January Vacation Care if you are interested. Once the service is up and running in 2023, Jones will consider the viability of Vacation Care at Blaxland PS.

School Presentation Day

This year, we will be holding the Annual Presentation Day on Tuesday 13th December starting at 9:30am. 2023 School Leaders and House Captains will be presented with their badges on the day. We look forward in recognising and celebrating the achievements and success of the school on the day.

Final K-6 Assembly

We will be holding the final 2022 K-6 Assembly on Monday 5th December starting at 2pm. This will be the final chance for students to be presented with a silver or gold award. Please remember that awards earnt in 2022 are carried forward to 2023, our system is accumulative but it is the students responsibility to keep track of the awards and put them in a safe place for 2023.

 School Planned Maintenance Works

Over the past few weeks, you may have noticed that we have painters onsite who have repainted the interior of the school hall, the external doors of all buildings and the interior of some classrooms. We are also in the process of having new carpet installed in all classrooms and the school administration building.

Colour Run

The P&C have organised a celebration day for all of us to have some fun and celebrate the success of 2022. There will be an obstacle course set up around the top oval with varied tasks for us to complete. The NSW Fire Brigade will also be with us on the day. If students do not want the colour thrown on them, they just need to run around the powder throwing station. A permission note has been sent home this week for all parents to complete and return to school prior to Friday 9th December. Colour Powder will be thrown by adults only. All participants are encouraged to wear sunglasses or googles as an extra precaution. Parents and family members are most welcome to join in the fun day.

Class Party Day

This year we will be having a class party day on Wednesday 14th December. Students may wear Mufti to school. Class teachers will be communicating more details with parents specific to their classes.

Year 6 Farewell

The Year 6 Farewell will be on Thursday 15th December in Blaxland Public School Hall. Thank you to the many staff and parents who are working behind the scenes to make this event a memorable night for our Year 6 students.

Last day of School

Friday 16th December is the final day for students. Students who are leaving our school at the end of this year, will be able to ring the historic bell and walk through a pathway lined with our students and staff as they leave in the afternoon. Parents are welcome to join us to say farewell. Staff will continue to work at school on Monday 19th and Tuesday 20th December participating in Professional Learning activities.

First day back for students.

Tuesday 31st January will be the first day back for students on Years 1-6. Kindergarten students will attend school at their specified appointment time for their Best Start Assessment on Tuesday 31st- Thursday 2nd February. Kindergarten students will start school on Friday 3rd February.

Have you seen the garden lately? We’ve planted zucchini, cucumber and tomato with celery and corn going in very soon. A big thank you to Mr Brooks for making and installing the bamboo trellis, we hope to grow our zucchinis upwards. The strawberry patch is going gang busters with lots of flowers and fruit. Lastly I’d like to thank the kids in 3/4H and 4/5D for their watering efforts, keep up the good work, the plants also thank you. Do have 30 minutes to spare? Please join us for Gardening Club every Monday 2:30-3:00, no experience required.
