A reading from the holy Gospel according to John

Jesus said:

‘The sheep that belong to me listen to my voice;

I know them and they follow me.

I give them eternal life;

they will never be lost

and no one will ever steal them from me.

The Father who gave them to me is greater than anyone,

and no one can steal from the Father.

The Father and I are one.’

Childrens Discussion Starters

Do you know of anyone who has been lost?

Who was worried?

How was that person found?

Jesus says to us that we can never really be lost for he knows each of us and will always care for us.

Let us pray that we may know and love Jesus more closely.

Easter Celebration

Last week, we celebrated Easter as a whole school with an Easter Mass celebrated by Fr Wim.

It was a beautiful celebration and it was wonderful to come together as a whole school community once again.

The theme for the mass was “New Beginnings”.

The following symbols were used to decorate the Altar- symbols of new life.

A lamb: Jesus, the ‘Lamb of God’ who takes away our sin.

A butterfly: It begins its life as a caterpillar (symbolising Christ’s life on earth); becomes a cocoon (symbolising Christ’s entombment); and ultimately transforms into a butterfly (symbolising Christ resurrected).

A seedling: New life sprouting and growing stronger and bigger each day.

Flowers: Flowers burst open from closed buds and bring their colour and life to all.

An egg: A symbol of life and new birth.

A clean slate: A symbol of God’s great gift to us all. The chance to begin again.

Mothers Day

This morning , Year 2 led the school in a reflective liturgy to celebrate the gift of mothers.

We celebrated and prayed for the special women in our lives. Women we call mothers and women who have loved and cared for us. We celebrated our Mother Mary, mothers, grandmothers, stepmothers, aunties, family friends and carers.

Let the inspiration of Mary, who offered constant love to all people, be a model for all those who care for others.

Reflective words from K-6.

Mothers are incredibly special because they give us our wonderful life.

Ongoing smiles and overall love and care you give to us. Out of this world, you are the number one mum because you outshine the brightest stars in the sky for the following reasons:- you always take care of us, you pick us up when we fall and when we need help and encouragement, you help us achieve success in what we do. You are simply outstanding.

Thank you to all mums for your love, your kindness and your warmth. Thank you for your guidance and support as we grow each day.

Here and there and everywhere, our mothers love us anywhere. Her laughter fills my heart and her kindness fills the air. Her hugs are amazing and warm me up when I sit in the chair. Her smile lights up the room and her helping hands will always share.

Every one of our mothers are special, kind and caring. We love our mums and they love us. They guide us, protect us and support us in everything we do. Thank you mums.

Remarkable women who show us the way. Respectful and loving to us every day. Resilient people who teach us to love, raising us to be the best we can be. Respectful, Reliable, Resilient, Remarkable are our mums.

She loves me more than anyone else because she takes me to fun places to play. She makes me yummy cupcakes.

May: The Month of Mary

During the month of May we remember our holy mother, Mary. As Catholics we honour Mary. We do not worship her, we pray to her, for her to intercede for us. She is a bridge for us to her Son, our Saviour, Jesus.

May is normally part of the Easter season, the period of fifty days, which lasts from Easter to Pentecost. It is the time that we celebrate Jesus’ Resurrection and culminates with Jesus’ Ascension and the sending of the Holy Spirit to the Church on Pentecost. During the Easter season we are more aware of Mary’s motherly presence and love. We are able to see the comfort and guidance she gave to the Apostles during this time.  It is a time to reflect on Jesus giving his mother to his beloved apostle and in essence to us.

When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing beside her, he said to his mother, “Woman, here is your son.” Then he said to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his own home.
