Dear St Mary's School Community

Focus Value: : Respect

We value others, their property, the environment and ourselves.

ANZAC Day Service at St Mary’s

Our ANZAC day service was held on Thursday 27th April due to Wednesday’s power outage. It was a beautiful and reverent ceremony. Thank you to Tanya from Merredin Flowers and Gifts for donating the beautiful wreath. Thank you also to our Year Six students for presenting.

Constable Care

The Constable Care incursion will occur on Tuesday 2nd May for students from Kindergarten to Year Six. Our junior years will learn about how to identify an emergency, the right phone numbers to use in a range of situations, and how they can play an active role in keeping their friends, family and community safe. The upper years students will learn about making sure they stay safe on the internet.

Alphabet of Awesome Science

On Wednesday 3rd May we will be attending the Alphabet of Awesome Science excursion at Cummins Theatre. Students from Pre-primary to Year Six will experience science concepts and ideas including: states of matter, cloud formation, chemical reactions (combustion, synthesis, exothermic), heat capacity, air pressure, human biology, pressure over different surface areas, rocket science, Newton's third law of motion, sound… and so much more! We will be walking from school to the theatre so please make sure your child is dressed appropriately in their school uniform in case of inclement weather.

St Mary’s Parish Quiz Night Fundraiser

Our Quiz night will be held on Wednesday 10th May and tables of 8 are filling up fast! Book in as soon as possible for a fantastic night.

Assessment Portfolio

The portfolio and reflection sheet are to be returned to your child’s teacher by the end of Week 1, Term 2 (Friday 28 April).

Winter Uniform

Please see below for details on how to order the winter uniform.  More detailed information can be found on the school website in the parent handbook

Wild Poppy Canteen Survey

Thank you to the parents who completed the survey. Unfortunately, the results were inconclusive for a change of day so we will continue with the service provided for our staff and students on Mondays.

Mother’s Day Mass and Morning Tea

The Mother's Day Mass and Morning Tea will be held on Friday 12th of May at 9:15am at St Mary’s Church. Following the service, all mothers, grandmothers and carers will be invited to the St Joseph’s School Hall for morning tea. Following morning tea, our visitors are invited to interact with their children during recess time. For catering purposes, please RSVP via the Skoolbag e-form.

We have now advertised for 2 teacher positions for commencement in Term 3. If you know of anyone capable and interested in this opportunity, please share this link

Principal’s Message

I hope you all had a happy and holy Easter and had the opportunity to enjoy a break from the routines of school and experience some quality family time together. The start of a school term can be a challenging time where we struggle with getting back into the early mornings, catching the bus, homework and various activities that schools provide. It is important that this time remains as calm as possible and that we give our children some time to adjust. Early nights, a decent breakfast and healthy snacks and lunches will all help with this. It is also important to allow children to make mistakes and to learn from these mistakes. Primary schools are fantastic environments for learning for life and it is very difficult to learn without having the confidence and safety to try new or challenging things even if we make mistakes. Be calm in this transition, encourage your children to have-a-go and allow them to make mistakes so they can grow, build confidence and develop resilience.

God Bless and have a lovely weekend with your families.
