A message from our Principal

Construction Update

Over the coming weeks some construction will begin to take place on our school grounds which may cause some minor disruption. The long-awaited commencement of our new K-2 playground is set begin with some tree work on weekends, so we can expect to see some changes starting to occur in that area over the coming weeks. Construction fencing will eventually be installed around the area, triggering changes to entry/exit points and play areas. Furthermore, the final phase of our roof replacement program will start in the final week of Term 2 and into the holiday break. This will see a new roof installed on the main admin block and C Block (Year 3/4 rooms). Great to see a start to these great projects that are improving our school environment.

School Uniform & Cold Weather

As the days get colder, please ensure that your child/children have the appropriate school jumpers (mark with their name) for warmth. If they are cold, particularly in the mornings, where possible, please attempt to provided extra layers under their correct school uniform. A reminder also, that students are expected to wear black school shoes on non-sport days. Although school colours, red shoes are not part of our school uniform on non-sport days. Your co-operation with this is greatly appreciated.

Jump Rope for Heart

Congratulations to all the students who are getting involved the with Jump Rope for Heart. So far, the students have raised well in advance of $5000, which is an amazing effort!

Cross Country Success

Congratulations to all the WWS students who represented our school at the zone carnival last Friday at rogers Park. There were some outstanding individual results, with 6 of our runners qualifying for the Sydney North Carnival next month. To cap off a great day, WWS finished in 5th place overall – our highest placing for many, many years. Mr Young’s cross-country training is really paying off! Well done to all involved.

School Attendance

This year we have been reminded of the critical importance of regular school attendance. We are committed to making improvements in the area at our school and would very much appreciate your support. There is no doubt that good attendance correlates with improved academic achievement, building and maintaining friendships, increased confidence and of course, the broadening of options for future direction. While I’m sure this is well understood, students should be at school unless they are legitimately sick, on pre-organised leave or at a medical appointment. Absences without these reasons are considered unjustified. The NSW DoE closely monitors our school to ensure we are meeting the legal requirements of student attendance. A day here and a day there, quickly accumulates and can have a lasting impact.

Have a great week everyone,

Matt Barr

Principal

Every Day Counts

Zone Cross Country Carnival

Woy Woy South students did a magnificent job at the Zone Cross Country last Friday May 20th.

Up against the best runners from the 13 other local Primary Schools our students ran their hearts out and placed 5th overall!

This is a magnificent performance and richly deserved after all the hours of training the students have been putting in. Special Congratulations to Koby - 3/4S who won his race and Ella - 3/4C who placed 2nd in a very tight finish. They will represent our zone at the large Sydney North Cross Country Championship at the end of next month.

Also qualifying for Zone after terrific runs were Kale - 3/4S, Emily - 3/4W, Mara - 5/6C and Jacob - 5/6M.

Congratulations for your outstanding results. Miss Swan and Mr Young would like to pay special tribute to all the attending students for their excellent behaviour throughout the entire event. All the students behaved as instructed and showed the school values of respect, responsibility and good relationships. We were very proud of all of you. Finally, Mr Young would like to thank all the students that came to Cross Country practice before school.

Even with the rain doing its best to ruin our good times we still had a lot of fun and got fit and fast at the same time. Later this year we will hit the ol' dusty trail again and make 2023 another great year of Woy Woy South running!

P&C News

Next P&C Meeting

Thursday 16th June 2022 at 7pm in the School Learning Centre.

We would love to see you there and remember, everyone is welcome. You don’t need to be a member to attend. Congratulations to our new member of the P&C Executive Committee, Lori Prouse, who was voted in as Assistant Treasurer at our recent meeting.

Election Day BBQ & Cake Stall

A massive thank you goes out to all of our helpers, bakers, order takers, BBQ masters, event coordinators and the school, for supporting this event and creating a very successful day. We were thrilled to see the community come out in force to support us!

We raised over $2500.00 to put towards the school’s B&B Highway project, which includes hands-on student workshops and a garden designed to attract and feed pollinators – part of a network that forms a bee and insect highway across the coast.

Local Business Shout Outs

We love to support those who support us, so we’d like to say thanks and give a shout out to:

●       South Street Fruit Market for discounting the big juicy apples the P&C gave to students on Walk to School Day last week.

●        Our BBQ suppliers were Kings Baked, Edwards Butchers, Masterfoods, Woolworths Woy Woy and Woy Woy Poultry Supplies, who went to great lengths to make sure we had onions in time!

●        Michael from the Mad Coffee Van who came along and supported the Election Day event.

Bluey’s Snack Shack

With the weather getting cooler, students can now get a $2.00 warm Milo or a $1.00 Toasted Cheesy Finger to warm those tummies. Feeling extra hungry? Get a Cheese & Ham Roll for $2.50 or Vegemite & Cheese Scroll for $3.00.

Wednesdays are Meatball Sub Day! Get 4 delicious beef meatballs on a roll with passata sauce and melted cheese for only $4.00.

Fun fact: Our pizza bases are now made in the canteen. This may mean there are some slightly odd shaped pizzas, but they definitely taste better! Please remember, if your child is off sick or goes home before 10:00am, let the canteen know so we can postpone or cancel your order.

Uniform Shop

With the colder weather arriving, it's a great time to stock up on Winter Tunics, Cargo or Unisex Pants, Sloppy Joe & Jackets. You can order online anytime via QuickCliq and we will send them home with your child. We endeavour to process orders as quickly as possible.

We are always looking for good quality 2nd hand items, especially jackets or jumpers with this weather.  If you have any outgrown uniforms that are in great wearable condition, you can drop these off at the canteen for donating.  If you are looking to buy any 2nd hand items, you can find them listed on QuickCliq.

Next Open Day for EFTPOS sales: Tuesday 7th June 2022 8:30am - 9:00am.

If you have any enquiries or are interested in volunteering on our Open Days, please get in touch with our Uniform Shop Coordinator Elle via email: uniformshop@wwspandc.org
