Our Lady of the Rosary Primary Newsletter

5 February 2020 - Week 2 Term 1

FROM THE PRINCIPAL MRS ANNELISE STOCKEY

Dear Parents and Carers,

Welcome to a new school year here at Our Lady of the Rosary. I hope you all had a safe and happy holiday and come back refreshed to a new an exciting year ahead.

The children and teachers are delighted to begin the learning in our new spaces and are all working hard to develop strong and cohesive teams so that all the children will experience optimal learning every day.  Walking through the grade spaces we see the children engaged and enthusiastic in their bright, comfortable and well organised, environments.

The second building is well on the way and expected to be completed by the beginning of September. During the holidays we had a few delays regarding the forecourt to our new building, which has caused a few issues around parents picking up their children at the end of the school day. We are hoping that this area will be completed in four weeks, which will give us more space in which to stand and wait.

We are very grateful to all the parents for taking extra care when moving/driving through our school and Parish grounds. With the constant adjustments we need to make to accommodate the building project we work very hard to ensure the children’s safety and well-being. I thank our staff members for taking on extra duties and responsibilities.  Their vigilance and with that of our parents, we are able to support the children and ensure a safe environment for all.

Tomorrow we officially welcome all members of our OLOR community to a new school year with our Opening School Mass. We will be presenting our new School Leaders for 2020 with their badges and pray together for a safe and happy year filled with learning and fun. We welcome our four new teachers, Ms Morelli, Ms Palmer, Ms Aguilar and Ms Burrows as well as welcoming back our existing staff. We welcome back our families as well as extend a big welcome to our new families.

Next week we will be holding our information evening for all our parents. This is a great opportunity to meet the teachers and hear what their expectations are for the 2020 school year. They will discuss the learning as well as the organisation and functionality of the new learning spaces. Due to the time restrictions the teachers will not have time to hold individual discussions with parents, however you can organise a time to speak with the teaching teams at a time suitable to you all. Please feel free to either set up a time then or contact the team to organise a meeting time (the teachers will give you contact details during the session).

I would like to leave you with this thought after the tragic news over the weekend of the passing of three of the Abdallah children who were part of our Parramatta Diocese in their primary school years .......

Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal.

SAFETY AROUND THE SCHOOL

There are a number of safety rules we need to remember when entering and exiting the two carparks at Our Lady of the Rosary.

·       Both Carparks are 10km/h zones

·       Both have car parking spaces. All cars are expected to park only in the spaces marked.

·       When walking to and from the parked cars, please hold your child’s hand

Kiss and Drop Carpark

·       Please have patience when moving in and out of the Kiss and Drop Zone – don’t overtake once you have dropped or picked up your children

·       The driveway coming into the Kiss and Drop Carpark is a no parking zone at the beginning and end of the day – please check the signage. This allows the cars to drive slowly through the line

·       This is the only area to drop your children

Church Carpark

·       Please be aware of the crossing in front of the gate

·       There is no parking in the turning circle in front of the church

·       Please do not use the end of the driveway (near the closed gate) as a drop off point- park and walk in.

·       There is no parking or drop off in front of the parish office

There are teachers on duty in Hi-Vis jackets. Please adhere to their instructions.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION BY MRS EARL

Today we celebrated the beginning of the school year with our Opening School Mass. It is a time to welcome all members of our school community especially those students, families and staff members who are new to our school and are just beginning their journey at Our Lady of the Rosary, Kellyville. Today we came together to celebrate the beginning of a new school year and to commission our new school leaders. We ask for the Lord’s blessing on our school and our school leaders as we call them to follow Jesus’ example as they lead our school community. As members of our Catholic Church community, we all have a mission to follow the way of Jesus.

OLOR Sunday Parish Masses

At the end of March we will begin the OLOR Parish Sunday Mass where each grade is warmly invited to participate and have the opportunity to take a leading role in the Mass. This will occur at the end of every second month throughout the year. This is a wonderful opportunity for the OLOR children and their families to share in the prayer life of our wider parish family. A letter will be sent to the allocated grade and students early next month. Thank you for your time and support.

News from Sr Antoinette

Dear Parents,

How lovely to be back at OLOR for the beginning of a new school year. A special welcome from me to our new parents. For the benefit of all our wonderful parents, old and new, I would like to remind you of my role here at OLOR in pastoral care  which covers the school community – children, teachers and parents. This year I will again  be working in most classes and giving the children the chance to practice Christian Meditation – a time to allow children to experience the presence of Jesus within – to continue to develop a deeper faith .  If any parent just wants to come and chat to some one other than a teacher, I am always happy to welcome you to my office in the Administration Block.

I am also hoping to facilitate an opportunity for parents to gather for a short time once a week to reflect and pray together – we all need to nourish our spiritual as well as our physical lives.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me: adoyle4@parra.catholic.edu.au

A THOUGHT

“We need to contemplate the mystery of Mercy -……… the bridge that connects God and humankind to opening our hearts to the hope of being loved forever”

Pope Francis

LOST PROPERTY: We are hoping to keep lost property to a minimum this year, so it is important and essential that ALL articles belonging to the children are clearly marked with their name.  Your assistance with this is greatly appreciated and is supporting your child to respect their belongings.

Wow! What surprises have been discovered in the garden after the holidays!!!

Lots of oversized zucchinis, loads of pumpkins….several that have escaped!, and the first beginnings of the watermelons.

The biggest surprise was the giant pumpkin that has grown behind the hall new the air conditioners…it’s huge..….and now there are two!

Garden club is on every Wednesday morning, unless it is raining, and begins at 7.30am.
