TOKSAVE - Lihir International School

Term 2, Week 7, 2020

From the Principal

It has been heartening to see how committed our students and parents have been to learning at home during term 2. Even though there has been some minor difficulties with technology and communication, the vast majority of our students have been in regular contact with their teachers and completing set tasks. Students are currently completing assignments and assessment tasks.

Next Monday, 8th June, is a public holiday for the Queen's Birthday. There will be no classes on Monday. Assembly will be at 9.00am Tuesday.

Please note  LIS will remain closed for the duration of Term 2. We are planning for the school to open in Term 3, pending appropriate approvals and processes in place.

Parents and carers may be concerned how well their children are coping with home schooling and the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. Below is a link that has some valuable resources for both parents and students regarding uncertainty during these times

Please do not forget to join our assembly at 9am tomorrow. Click on the Meet link in the LIS Assembly classroom in Google Classroom and remember to mute your microphone.

Please contact myself or your child's teachers if you have any queries or concerns regarding your child's education at LIS.

Term 2 Student Council Activities

Students are invited to enter into a Covid 19 mask making competition. Let your imagination go and design and create a mask to reflect your understanding of the pandemic. Send a photo of yourself wearing your mask to your class teacher before the end of Week 8, Friday June 5. Maybe you could include a couple of shots of your mask taken from different angles.

Students in Prep to Year 2 may choose to enter a colour in competition instead. Templates may be collected from school when you collect your at home learning pack for Weeks 5 to 9. You have 4 pictures to choose from.

From the Deputy Principal

There are many educational websites that provide learning activities for students of all ages.

This website, https://www.brisbanekids.com.au/world-museums-that-offer-virtual-tours/ , has links to a range of museums that you can visit and experience from home. Enjoy one of the virtual tours and learn about the past!

I hope everyone has a great weekend.
