From the Principal

We say thank you for another fantastic term of learning and wish everyone a safe and restful winter holiday, lots of lovely art work, poems and some holiday things just to name a few.

End of Term Two

Term Two finishes on Friday 5 July.  Students will be on holidays until Tuesday 23 July.  We wish everyone a safe and restful holiday.  There are all sorts of things going on in Sydney during the winter holidays.  Take the train to the city and investigate the Sydney Museum, lots of fun and you  can have a picnic in the park.  Catch the train to Circular Quay and then catch the ferry across to Manly, see the waves and check out the shops on the corso.  There are so many things to do.

If you see anything happening at school that you are concerned about during the holidays please contact the Police or School Security Unit on 1300 880 021

Term resumes on Tuesday 23 July.

Rennovations

During Week 10 and the school holidays there will be some disruptions to classrooms as we have five classrooms being laid with new carpet and many many rooms being painted. Some buildings are being painted outside as well.  This will make our school nice and fresh again and keep our school a welcome and inviting place to work and learn.

    Sad News

We received sad news last week in regards to one of our students passing away in Year 1.  Julie Truong who was in KP in 2018 had been suffering from leukaemia for long time.  Students who were in her class in 2018, were told by myself and the school psychologist on Thursday. The school was represented at the funeral on Tuesday by Mrs Miedler, Ms Condran and Mrs Phillips.

We will remember Julie's warm smile and loving nature.

A star will be bought on the international star register in her memory.

Our thoughts go to Julie's family and friends at this sad time.

    Letter from Mrs Cootes

Good morning everyone both staff and students,

I just wanted to say thank you all for the most beautiful and memorable day of my teaching career.

I truly honoured and humbled by the send off you gave me and I want to apologise for crying so

much that I could barely speak and express my thanks.

Thank you for wearing a touch of red yesterday. Thank you for the most wonderful assembly yesterday.

I was so emotional throughout the assembly thank goodness I had Sydney Fairtfield and Mrs Cuk to hold my hand and Mr Smith to give me a hug.

The performances from the choir and 5J, 5I and Stage 3 students were incredible. I love the song "Count on Me" it's of my favourites and I think "I am Australian" would be a perfect new National Anthem. You are all amazing and our as for our soloists, I think we may see you on "The Voice" one day. To all the students that lead the assembly, thank you. My sincere and grateful thanks to Ferah, Sevda and Ella for co-ordinating, teaching the students and leading the singing. It was remarkable.

Thank you for the beautiful book you made. How wonderful. I will always treasure it, and I am so pleased it has photos so I can remember you always.

After the assembly girls and boys there was another surprise for me. A beautiful lunch, some more lovely speeches and some surprises for me. Thank you Mr Smith, Ms Wells and Mr Davidson (Mr Smith's boss) for your kind and sincere words. I would love it if I could have a copy of what you said, if that's ok. Thank you to the staff that organised this, to you all for coming and for all your good wishes.

Yesterday afternoon, I was teaching some of our teachers about working with refugee students with Mrs Cuk. At about 2:50pm, there was a message for me to go to the grass area as there was a Level 4 incident. As I came into the playground, I saw all of you assembled with parents, to say goodbye. Another surprise. I know I cried all the way throught the tunnel and was so emotional I could barely speak. Thank you all for your kindness, generosity of spirit and all the good wishes.

I have felt so loved at Fairfield. Fairfield PS is a very special place. It's so hard to leave.

This song sums up my feelings. I love singing - but my music teacher told me once to "mouth the words", This song was recorded by Judith Durham. She was in a band called "The Seekers", She is older than me, but when i was a kid, this was the music we listened to. I am not sure when she wrote this song, but it sums up how I feel about leaving you all behind. The song is called, "It's time to leave."

Much love to you all. Here's the song. You might have time to listen to it today. Please remember how special you are too me. There is no other school like Fairfield.

Thanks again for yesterday. I will never forget it, and I will never forget you all. Thanks to all the staff who

organised the Secret Business. You did well and it was an awesome day. I will think of you often and miss you all.
