Kindy and Pre Primary Enrolments for 2020

As detailed in the last newsletter, we are currently taking enrolments for Kindy and Pre Primary classes in 2020. If you intend to enrol your child in either of these year groups could you please submit your application to the front office as soon as possible.

As our school continues to grow in size it is important for us to be aware of our numbers to ensure that we have adequately catered for our local intake area enrolments before we can start to consider out of area applications.

Reports

Over the past few weeks staff have been working hard to finalise the Formal Reports for Semester 1. These will be emailed to parents on Friday 5 July. To ensure that this process runs smoothly could parents please:

·         Make sure that the front office has your correct email address

·         Let the front office know if your child’s report needs to be emailed to more than one person.

School Board

The focus of last night’s School Board meeting was largely on monitoring how we are going in regards to the Strong Governance and Support pillar of the current Business Plan. There was rich discussion around the core strategies aligned with this pillar, what evidence was present in regards to the key objectives and consideration as to what needs to be done in order to continue to meet them. It was agreed that the school was working well towards achieving the key objectives, in particular:

·         preserving the family feel of the school

·         building learners for the future

·         creating and maintaining staff links amongst our local network of schools.

Some points to continue to focus on over the remaining 18 months of the Business Plan included:

·         Monitoring the range and effectiveness of communication sources to further develop our community feedback loop

·         Where appropriate, further develop opportunities for our students to engage with students from other schools in our local network

·         Continue to keep the community informed around the growth that the school is experiencing and the related capital works, space and capacity issues.

 Flu Season:

As you have no doubt heard in the media, this year we are experiencing a particularly harsh flu season.

Influenza is generally worse than the common cold and is marked by the following symptoms: sudden onset of fever, headache, sore throat, cough and lung congestion, fatigue and muscle aches.

Schools can be a prime incubating environment for colds and flus so below is so it is important for students to stay home if they are sick. The Health Department suggests the following strategies to help avoid catching or spreading the flu:

·         Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.

·         Throw used tissues in the bin.

·         Wash your hands often with soap and water or use antibacterial hand sanitisers, especially after you cough.

·         Try to avoid close contact with people who have flu symptoms.

·         If you have the flu, stay home from work or school and limit your contact with other people.

Leave

To comply with Department requirements I have a chunk of long service leave that I need to take before March next year. As a result, I will be on leave for the first 5 weeks of Term 3. I have chosen this timing as I believe it will be least disruptive to the school. To minimise disruption further, the Principal position will be filled by our wonderful deputy, Erica Salt, during this period who is experienced in, and highly capable of, leading the school in my absence.

Mr Josh Dorozenko will be filling the Deputy Principal position. Mr Dorozenko will email his parents once we have finalised who his replacement will be and they have been cleared through staffing. This is likely to be by the end of next week.

Whilst I am looking forward to my leave, I am also looking forward to returning in Week 6 in time for all the exciting events that are scheduled to take place in the second part of the year.
