Mr Carr's Report

P&C Working Bee Shout Out:

We had an amazing turnout on Saturday 17th September for our Working Bee. While the official time was 10:00am-2:00pm, we had some students and their families arrive as early as 6:30am, and leave as late as 4:00pm. It was a great collective effort with lots of important jobs getting done. The students lit up on the following Monday when they saw all the works. Thanks so so much to our P&C and volunteers for a great community day!

NAPLAN Awards:

We recognised our students who achieved in the Top 2 Bands of the NAPLAN literacy and numeracy assessment on Friday last week. 18 students in Year 3 were awarded one or more Top 2 Bands Achievement Awards at our assembly. An additional 8 students in Year 5 were also awarded one or more Top 2 Bands Achievement Awards, with four of these students being recognised as performing at HSC minimum standard (Band 8) in several areas. It is so wonderful seeing the hard work of our students and their teachers paying off!

School Canteen - Farwell Trish:

Sadly, our amazing canteen operator Trish is leaving us to pursue a new career. Trish has been an outstanding team member, both as an employee of the P&C and the school. Her commitment and dedication to our school and serving our students was second to none. We know it was a difficult decision for Trish to leave, but we can’t hold her back from the amazing opportunity she is taking up. On behalf of the school community, I’d like to thank Trish again for running such a great service for our students (and staff) and hope we can find a replacement soon to get those Mr Carr Special’s rolling out from the canteen again in Term 4. Best wishes Trish!

Retirement – Karen Rowen:

Karen Rowen has taught for many years across many schools in her career. Karen has a keen interest for the arts, bringing the element of creativity into her classroom and whole school activities wherever possible. Karen worked as a class teacher and in reading intervention for students in the early years at our school. Karen was also a valued team member who would help with staff social events, and always made sure we never ran out of tea and coffee in the staffroom! We wish Karen well in her retirement.

Leveling Up in Term 4:

We have had a great year so far, with students and staff ‘striving to do well’ in all aspects of school life. In Term 4, we aim to take our efforts up a notch by finishing with strong student attendance, outstanding achievements in assessments for school reports, and setting a higher standard for conduct through peer leadership. We are very excited about the work we have achieved to date but hold high aspirations for our students and staff to take our outstanding efforts to a level of exceptional. We are an above average school for a reason…but we aren’t happy with being above average…we want to grow the gap between our school and the average of others!

Safe Holidays:

On behalf of the school, I’d like to wish our students and their families well for this upcoming holiday break. I hope the holidays provide an opportunity for relaxation and fun. I’d also like to send a shout out to our amazing staff for their efforts this term. We have an amazing team, dedicated to our collective cause. I too hope you have a well-deserved break filled with relaxation and fun.

Tell Them From Me Survey:

We have had 66 respondents to our annual survey. We are aiming for 100. We value community voice so if you have not yet completed the survey this year, please do so by scanning the QR code. Your voice matters…so please scan and get us one survey closer to our goal of 100!

Lions Club Swansea

We are pleased to report that we have recently received a donation of almost $3000 from the Lions Club of Swansea to purchase a defibrillator for our school.

Thank you to the Lions Club for their generosity and willingness to support our school and community with this life-saving resource. We hope that we will never need to use it, however knowing that we can access it within seconds provides us with much peace of mind.

Thank you, Lions Club!

We have had a fantastic day at our Working Bee today.

There have been lots of jobs completed around Swansea Public School, including painting, gardening, gurneying, building seats & mowing.

We truly do appreciate you !

6/5L Mr Lowe

Open Mic at 6/5L

To finish off our unit on poetry, 6/5L STEM decided to hold an 'Open Mic Night' in our classroom recently. It was a great event and the students displayed their real talents in poetry.

Why are poets always so poor?

Because rhyme doesn't pay - Pardon the pun !

The fast and easy ways to report an absence.
