Burton Primary School Newsletter

Term 1, Week 1, 2023

From the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome to the 2023 school year. Hopefully this year will remain free from COVID and can be full of learning for your children.

We have begun 2023 with 427 students enrolled at Burton. This is an increase from 2022 when we began the school year with 408 students.

We welcome 57 new students and their families into our 3 foundation/reception classes.

We also welcome some new staff:

- Maria Appelt (Deputy Principal)

- Emily Paterson (Assistant Principal)

- Jessica Hogan (Foundation teacher)

- Alexandra Tuit (Year 1 teacher)

- Carissa McCarthy (Year 2 teacher)

- Mandy Jenkins (Year 2 teacher)

- Michael Manno (Year 4 teacher)

- Michelle Miller (Year 5/6 teacher)

- Tania Passmore (Intervention teacher)

In 2023, over 50 staff will support your children here at Burton. A staff list is attached to this newsletter.

There are some matters that we wish to raise with you.

1. Being on Time- Classes begin each day at 8:45. Students are allowed to enter the yard from 8:30 when the yard duty teachers start their supervision.

2. Street Parking- the parking area on Kensington Way near the school crossing is a Kiss and Drop Zone. Parents and Carers should not leave their cars, and there is no parking. Today, police were monitoring this area.

3. Community Hub- The Hub it's available for parents to drop by in the morning or the afternoon for tea and coffee. There is no charge for this, and there are facilities for pre-schoolers and young children to play while you have your coffee.

4. Hats- During term one, every student is required to wear a hat anytime they are outside. Please write your child's name in Texta inside the hat so that it does not go missing.

5. NAPLAN- The NAPLAN tests will be held in term one this year for the first time. All students in year 3 and 5 complete the NAPLAN tests. The tests will be completed in the middle weeks of March.

6. School Card- Larger numbers of families will be entitled School Card in 2023. If you have had School Card in the past please apply again as soon as possible, so that the funds get into our account as soon as possible.

7. $100 Government Rebate- Any family that pays school fees will automatically receive the SA government $100 discount in 2023. This will be deducted from your

school fee bill. Families that access School Card do not get the $100 discount from the state government.
