Reflection

I am God Nearby

I am a God nearby; I am not far away,

I am not far away, I am a God nearby

I am not far away from you

Just as the air that you breathe is essential

So is My presence to you

You would not cover your lips and be breathless

Why then keep your heart from my view.

David Kauffman

Leadership and Management

Dear Families and Friends of Our Lady’s Community,

Winter certainly is upon us with temperatures just making it into the double figures. However the cold and wet weather does not deter us here at Our Lady’s. Work on our playground continues with our beautiful students planting over the past couple of days and  our learning spaces are alive with chatter and curiosity.

Playground

As mentioned over the past few days all the students have been involved in the planting out of our new learning and play space. It has been wonderful to have many of our parents come along and assist us too . As part of this process, the students have been working alongside a horticulturalist and qualified teachers and as a consequence, they have been able to engage in a rich and authentic learning experience in terms of science and  also able to make strong connections with our faith and our call to care for creation.

After much reflection, we have decided to coincide the opening of our playground with our Feast Day on June 27th. We have a wonderful day planned to celebrate how fortunate and grateful we are to not only come to Our Lady’s every day but also to have such a beautiful space to learn and play in. We hope to see as many members of our school community here to join in the celebrations.

Professional Learning Day - Last Friday the staff were involved in a Professional Learning Day that involved the unpacking of the 14 Parameters of School Improvement.

The 14 Parameters are based on the research of Dr Lyn Sharratt and Michael Fullen. They are:

1. Shared Beliefs and Understandings

    ●     Each student can achieve high standards given the right time and the right support

    ●     High expectations and early and ongoing intervention are essential

    ●     Teachers and Administrators need to be able to articulate what they do and why they teach the way they do

2. Embedded literacy /instructional coaches

3. Daily, sustained focus on literacy instruction

4. Principal instructional leadership

5. Early and ongoing intervention

6. Case Management Approach: DATA Wall, Case - by Case Meetings

7. Professional Learning at all Staff Meetings

8. In School grade/ subject meetings. Collaborative marking of student work

9. Centralised resources

10. Commitment of district and school budgets for literacy learning and resources. Teachers and administrators need to be able to articulate what they do and why they teach the way they do

11. Action research and Collaborative Inquiry

12. Parental and Community Involvement

13. Cross curricular literacy connections in all subjects.

14. Shared responsibility and accountability

Our Lady’s will be using this framework to drive our school improvement agenda along with 40 other catholic schools across the state.

Sporting Schools Grant - Hockey Clinic

A big thank to Mrs James for once again being successful in her grant applications. This term the money has allowed us to conduct Hockey Clinics for students from Prep to Year 6.

I also wish to acknowledge the students from Year 3 to 6 who participated in the recent Cross Country event. Our Lady’s was incredibly successful and all of the students were acknowledged at Assembly on Monday morning.

A special congratulations must go to Billy for qualifying for the district event. What an achievement.

Year 5 /6 Camp

Last week Ms Ludescher, Mr Hawke, Mrs Sandy, Ann, Tania, myself and 49 students attended Camp Wyuna in Queenscliff. We all had a great time stepping out of our comfort zones and tasting new foods, attempting new activities and having to survive without mum, dad and the familiar comforts of home. I was so proud of our students for their positive attitude, enthusiasm and encouragement of one another.

Semester One Reports

This semester we are pleased to announce that you will be receiving your child’s semester report online via the nForma Parent Portal for the first time.

It is very important that you have updated your email addresses with the school, as an automated email containing instructions and login details will come from noreply@nforma.com.au and not the school. Please ensure that you check your junk/spam folder for an email from that address.

It is highly recommended that you use a computer to access your child’s reports for the first time. Subsequent logins can be made on a mobile device if preferred.

Once you have followed the instructions, you will be able to view your child’s report online.

Once in the portal you will need to choose your child (if you have more than one at our school) and then choose 'Assessment and Reporting'. Then select the year/semester.

Forgotten passwords: If you have forgotten your password, please follow the 'forgotten password' link. Please note that your new password needs to be at least 7 characters long and must include at least one non alpha-numeric character, e.g. *, - / or similar.

If you have requested a password reset and the email does not appear, please look in your junk/spam folder for an email from no-reply@nforma.com.au.

If you have any questions or issues, please contact the school’s nForma administrator

To see your child’s class teacher for the 15 minute interview please log onto  www.schoolinterviews.com.au  Please see booking information below.

This semester we are going to trial having the Parent Teacher Interviews in the Multi Purpose Centre. This will allow parents with more than one child to move from one teacher to another with ease. Teachers will be placed around the perimeter of the room with a central waiting area in the middle. Conducting Parent Teacher Interviews in this way helps build a sense of community.

Semester 1 Reports will be distributed on Friday 21st June.

Foundation 2020 Enrolment Application

We request that all parents with Foundation/Prep enrolments for the 2020 school year submit enrolment forms as soon as possible.  If you are aware of friends or family members wishing to enroll at Our Lady’s please advise them that enrolment forms need to be submitted to secure a placement.

Fr Mark and I have already begun the Interview process for new and existing families. It has been delightful to meet the children and welcome families into our community.

Footy Cards

It is not my preference to ban things that the children bring from home to school, however, at present we are having some challenges with Footy Cards/Books going missing from desks and even out of school bags. I am requesting that you have a conversation about this at home and reinforce to your children that it is never OK to take something that is not yours. I have had some very sad children in my office lately and it disappoints me greatly that we are not respecting each other and caring for each other as well as we should.

Thank you to the Lawn Mowers!

I would like to simply thank our Dads that volunteer their time to mow the lawn not only outside the school but also along Erasmus St. regularly. It is a tough enough job maintaining our homes let alone the maintenance of our school, and I am so grateful for their generosity of spirit and patience with the leaves!

Assembly

There will be an Assembly on Tuesday morning next week. Wishing you all warm and snuggly long week. My third daughter is getting ready for the drama that surrounds the end of Year 12: SAC’s, Exams and Folios!

Quote for the fortnight

“Who we are and how we engage with the world are much stronger predictors of how our children will do than what we know about parenting. In terms of teaching our children to dare greatly in the "never enough" culture, the question isn't so much "Are you parenting the right way?" as it is: "Are you the adult that you want your child to grow up to be?”

Liam Chooses the New Dishwasher

When the staffroom dishwasher needed to be replaced, Liam was quickly on the job. Liam and mum Megan went straight to The Good Guys where Liam is a valued customer. He was able to get an excellent quote on three dishwashers and brought them straight back to Julie in the office. Julie was surprised by the excellent prices that Liam was able to get and chose the Bosc.

Thank you Liam!

You are wonderful!

Thank You

We would like to thank PFA for their well wishes and gorgeous Purebaby gift for our daughter Lucinda Grace Parisi, born on Friday 24th May.

Thank you kindly.

Susie, Laurence, Oliver, Alfie and Lulu.

Outside School Hours Care at Our Lady’s Primary –

Different Booking Options to Cater for Different Needs

At Camp Australia, we know that all families have different needs and schedules. Some families rely on Outside School Hours Care and have a schedule that never changes, whilst others have an irregular schedule, meaning their Outside School Hours Care needs change from week to week.

To cater for all families, we offer three booking options and fees according to your lifestyle and needs:

1.    Blue Account: for fixed routines to access savings.

2.    Silver Account: for occasional changes to your scheduled care.

3.    Gold Account: for irregular schedules that can take advantage of a two-hour cancellation window.

These accounts give families options. But our advice is to always book in advance

Why in advance?

We operate a child care service governed by Education and Care National Law and Regulations, so we can only operate within Educator to Child ratios. This means the more notice we have on bookings, the better equipped we are to staff a service to meet your needs. This way we can provide the best care to all families in the school.

Worry you might need to cancel last minute?

Our Gold Account option has a two-hour cancellation window, for only $2.50 more per session than our Silver Account option.

To find out more about our service, view our fees and to register, visit www.campaustralia.com.au and search for your school. It’s free to register!

We look forward to seeing you and your family soon!

From the Team at Camp Australia

If you have any questions regarding the bookings, please contact Camp Australia Customer service on 1300 105 343. You can also come and see me in the Multi-purpose room between 6.30 am-8.30 am and 2.55 pm-6.00 pm. I will be more than happy to discuss any issues or feedback you have and pass it on to the head office.

Thank you,
