Rozelle Public School Newsletter

TERM TWO WEEK FOUR

From the Principal

Rozelle is a place where Aboriginal children learned, played and celebrated their culture for thousands of years on this beautiful, natural land. As we learn, play and celebrate together on this land, we honour the Wangal people of the Eora nation and pay our respects to elders both past, present and emerging.

WALK SAFELY TO SCHOOL DAY

Today is National Walk Safely to School Day, an annual event where Primary School students are encouraged to walk and commute safely to school. It’s a community event seeking to promote road safety, health and the environment. This week teachers have taken the opportunity to deliver important pedestrian safety messages including:

  • Holding a grown-ups hand when crossing the road (up until at least 10 years old)

  • Using a safe place to cross the road

  • Stop! Look! Listen! Think! every time you cross the road.

At Rozelle we have a number of students who walk independently to school and cross busy Victoria Road. I strongly recommend, on occasions, walking to school with your child, modelling and reinforcing the safe crossing of Victoria Road. Have those conversations with your child regularly.

CROSS COUNTRY CARNIVAL

How lucky were we to have our cross country carnival yesterday, as today the wet weather has returned. It was great to see our students competing, cheering and having fun. There were some fabulous results and no doubt Team Rozelle will be a competitive group at next week's Balmain Zone Cross Country Carnival. Once again I would like to thank all the parents who attended and volunteered their time. Miss Rolland and Mrs Singleton did a fantastic job of organising this year’s event.

KEEPING UP TO DATE

Rozelle is a busy school with many events, activities and programs on offer. Sometimes it can be hard for busy parents to keep across everything. The following platforms offer parents current information and calendar dates:

  • The fortnightly newsletter published on Skool Bag
  • The calendar, found on the Skool Bag App
  • The calendar on the school website

ENROL NOW FOR 2023

Do you have a child starting school next year? Are you looking to enrol your child in preschool for 2023? Now is the time to get your enrolment forms submitted for Kindy and Preschool 2023. Importantly….preschool applications must be submitted by the end of this term - Friday 1 July 2022. Please let your local friends and neighbours know.

ROOFING PROJECT TO COMMENCE

Next week, work will commence to install a new roof on Block E which includes the library and gallery spaces. The project is expected to take at least 4 weeks to complete and there will be scaffolding surrounding the entire building. The scope of works includes removal of old solar panels, with new replacements. The rain over the past few months has caused extensive damage and this capital works project is much needed.

Cross Country

What a day we had at the Cross Country yesterday! The weather held off for what ended up being a gorgeous day for a nice long run. Well done to each student who entered into their race and did their very best. We are taking a very strong team of 48 runners to the zone carnival next Wednesday 25 May Federal Park Chapman Street, Glebe.

Thank you to all our parent volunteers who came along to help on the day, it is very appreciated and also our Rozelle students and teachers for another great carnival.

Students in Kindergarten and Year 1 also enjoyed their own mini cross country carnival at school. Here are some photos from the day.

School Photo's 2022

School photos will be held during Week 5 on Tuesday 24 May and Thursday 26 May 2022. All students will receive an envelope for ordering and payment. Envelopes are to be returned to the office prior to the day. It is important in the operation of the pre-payment system that each child returns their own envelope with their name and class clearly marked.

All sibling photographs are to be paid for using specific sibling envelopes to avoid any confusion. Sibling envelopes are available at the school office.

Reconciliation Assembly - Monday 30 May

 Be Brave, Make Change.

Reconciliation Assembly will be in Week 6 (Monday 30 May) at 2pm in the school hall for students from Y1-6. All parents and siblings are welcome to attend.

National Reconciliation Week (27 May to 3 June) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

The National Reconciliation Week 2022 theme, “Be Brave. Make Change.” is a challenge to all Australians — individuals, families, communities, organisations and government — to Be Brave and tackle the unfinished business of reconciliation so we can Make Change for the benefit of all Australians.

Morning Lines will continue to be held for the whole school on Monday mornings and School Assemblies will be held from 2:20-3pm on a Monday afternoon in the hall. There will be alternate weeks for K-2 and 3-6, with a whole school assembly held for special events.

RPS Street Library

You may have noticed our brand new, student designed Street Library boxes at various spots around the school. Please feel free to take a book home, or leave a book for someone else to take. They are free and you can keep any books you take. You can also add to the boxes if there's a book that you really enjoyed and are happy to share with others. Please don't overfill the boxes though as we don't want books to get damaged in the wet weather. Remember: "Books are a uniquely portable magic" Stephen King

Preschool 2023 Enrolment

Applications for enrolment into the preschool program have now opened. All the necessary information and application forms are available on the school website at  https://rozelle-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/ or from the school office. Children are eligible for enrolment in preschool classes from the beginning of the school year if they turn four years of age before July 31 of that year. Applications close at 3pm on Friday 1 July.

There is no priority for the order in which enrolments are received by the office. The Preschool Placement panel, consisting of the Principal, the President of the P&C and one of our preschool teachers, considers all applications in accordance with the priorities of the Department of Education and Communities' Preschool Enrolment Policy and the Rozelle Public School Preschool Enrolment and Fee Policy.
