Week 6 already, more than half way through Term 3 and things are starting to get busy.
This Friday the SRC have organised a mufti day with a splash of yellow to celebrate Daffodil Day and raise funds for Cancer Council Australia. Please don't feel like you need to go out and purchase new items of clothing, only a splash of yellow is required and a gold coin donation. Thank you for supporting the SRC with this initiative.
I have spoken to students this week about maintaining the high standard of school uniform we have at Luddenham PS. Over the past few weeks, brightly coloured head wear including bows and headbands along with tracksuit pants, jackets, jumpers and socks in non-uniform colours have been making their way to school. I encourage students to wear our school uniform as it promotes a sense of belonging and creates a positive identity for the school community. School uniforms also contribute to the personal safety of students by allowing easier recognition of students inside the school and in the community. I appreciate your support in asking students to save their non-uniform items for the weekend. If you need any assistance to get uniform items for your child/ren, please contact the office.
As you may already be aware, there have been some changes to when students are able to play handball and soccer in response to constant issues between students playing these games. Handball is played in the mornings where staff have handballs for the students to use and there are multiple groups of handball squares so that students can spread out and play in smaller friendship groups. At recess and lunch, the only place to play handball is on the pavers outside the library where it is difficult to see clear boundaries, all students are sharing the one space and rules for all players are not known or understood. We hope to overcome this problem, by getting students to agree on a standardised set of rules then signage can be made and displayed for students to refer to. Soccer is open for all students on Tuesdays and Thursdays at lunch and is monitored closely to ensure it is a safe and fair game for all playing. In addition to these games, students have the option to use the balls to play volleyball, the playground equipment is open, the sandpits are a huge hit with many students working together to build buildings, tunnels, volcanoes, race tracks etc. There is also a bag of playground equipment that contains frisbees, walking stompers, vortexes and skipping ropes. We hope that our playground is a fun, safe and engaging place for all students so if you can think of anything else that would be a great addition to our playground, please give the office a ring and let us know.
At Luddenham PS, we are very lucky to have volunteers that give up their time to run our school canteen. Until the end of term, the canteen will be open two days, both with pre-orders ONLY. For your child/ren to get lunch from the canteen on Wednesday, pre-orders need to be in on Monday and for lunch on Friday, pre-orders need to be in on Wednesday.
Father's Day is nearly here and, although a Father's Day Stall can not run in the same way as it has previously, the P&C will be putting something together for Thursday 3 September so that our students don't miss out on this opportunity. Please keep an eye on Skoolbag for more information about this soon. Unfortunately, our last P&C meeting was unable to go ahead so hopefully I'll be able to catch up with you all at our next meeting on Friday 11 September.
Lastly, I would like to recognise our fantastic school administration staff in 'SAS Recognition Week' who work tirelessly to support the teachers, students and community at Luddenham PS. I would like to thank our office staff Mrs Chapple and Mrs Stove-Wilson, our general assistant Mr Farrell and our school learning support officers Mrs McPherson, Mrs Radovic, Mrs Fawal and Mrs L Pearce for making our school a great place to be.
Mrs Kim Pearce
