It’s been an incredible 12 months. After the lockdowns and learning from home in the last couple of years we looked forward to 2022 being less challenging. This was not to be the case. The school year started with Covid safe measures once again and COVID-19 cases were on the rise amongst students and staff. There was a shortage of casual teachers and everyday we had to make decisions about class organisation to ensure that teaching and learning continued. Then there was the rain which had us indoors for weeks.
Despite the challenges there is much to be proud of, celebrate and be thankful for as the year closes out.
Congratulations to our students and teachers on a very successful year of teaching and learning. I am very proud of the fact that all our students, regardless of their abilities, have been given opportunities to be challenged, achieve success, feel valued and cared for in our school.
All that we do here at Eastlakes would not be possible without the dedication and commitment of our staff – both teaching and non-teaching. Their individual and collective skills have contributed not only to the school’s success but more importantly to student achievement.
Our teachers continually engaged in high quality professional learning throughout the year to ensure students were provided with learning opportunities that extended and challenged them.
A special mention to my exceptional executive team Miss Kerri Goldspink, Miss Kim Kutasi and Mr Tom Spencer, who have the ability, on a daily basis, to multitask, have school operations, teaching their class, dealing with playground issues, rosters, meetings, making sure school targets are on track, leading curriculum and the list goes on and on. I consider myself fortunate to have such a passionate executive team.
I cannot go without special thanks to the school administration staff, including our general assistant and our school learning support officers: Mrs Peralta, Mrs Fitzpatrick, Mrs Ayan, Miss Prelec, Mr Markovski, and Mrs Sharmin. These people are the engine room of the school, the cogs that keep the wheels turning. I thank them for all the support they give teachers, students, parents and carers, visitors and me! It is very much appreciated.
To the 2022 School Captains, Dean and Rebecca, Vice Captains, Lucas and Adrianne and School Leaders Suhana, Aydin, Monon and Senait thank you for being such great role models for your fellow students. These students have been respectful, responsible and enthusiastic learners taking their leadership role seriously and making the most of their time as students leaders at Eastlakes.
Our collaborative partnerships with the P&C, parents, volunteers, local organisations and businesses, all in their individual way, support the school to provide opportunities ways to maximise student outcomes. I thank them all for supporting Eastlakes PS this year and look forward to a continuing partnership in the year ahead.
I wish all our families a safe and happy summer holiday. I look forward to seeing you all next year!
