2022 Term 2 Week 5

Election Day

Thank you

Thank you to our wonderful school community who came together on Election Day to support the efforts of the P&C as they hosted a BBQ and cake stall.

Thank you to the many many families who baked or provided delicious yummy treats to sell to the voters. Nearly 2000 people turned out and chose our school to cast their votes. Thank you to our families who contributed in other ways, such as donating money or their time to support the event. Every contribution was greatly appreciated.

A huge thank you to the organising team led by Prama and Steph and supported by Erika, Jess, Nina and Lucinda for the preparation behind the scenes and the coordination on the day.

Thank you once again to PAYCE for the support given to the P&C for the BBQ.

Thank you to our volunteers who signed up to help prepare, cook, serve and clean up on the day, including family,  Murugasu Thompson, Williams, Mather, Prout, Mazzone, Duggin Cooper, Hewitt, Kempe, Simonds, Barnett, DeZwart, Dyer, Haskins, Reale, Lau, Mavin-Ward, Hallet. Successful Learners

Everyday Maths Hub

https://education.nsw.gov.au/parents-and-carers/everyday-maths/primary?q=

Parents and carers can explore the importance of mathematical skills within the expanded Everyday Maths Hub.

Participate in a range of mathematical activities with your child from reading books and playing games to shopping and cooking. All designed to help your child develop confidence and nurture skills in maths.

Developed by the NSW Department of Education, with content curated by primary and secondary mathematics teachers, the Everyday Maths Hub is designed to help parents and carers engage positively with their children about mathematics through everyday activities.

Mathematics develops capabilities for life, giving students the opportunity to form life-long fundamental skills in problem solving, analysis and observation – relevant to everyday life and all careers.

Stage 3 Camp

Next week Stage 3, ( Year 5 and Year 6) are off on a three day camp to Point Wolstoncroft. This camp is run by the Department of Education Sport and Recreation Unit.  Students have been given a camp list of what to take and  information on what time to be at school next Monday morning. Mrs Malone, Mr Brennen and Miss Whitehouse will accompany students on camp.

Students will also be given a RAT kit to take home this week. We recommend students take a RAT before attending camp.

Zones of Regulation

2O Learning

Students in Year 2 are  demonstrating some amazing work as we progress through the term.

On Mondays, Mrs Gallagher, our Wellbeing Support Officer, has been joining the class as we progress our learning journey with the Zones of Regulation. Students are practicing recognising feelings on faces in magazines and have made a series of collages that represented each Zone. We also talked about our own face and body language as well as others and what we can do to help our friends if we observe they are in the blue or yellow zone.

“If my friend was in the blue zone I would ask if she was okay and if she would like to play with me. If she didn’t want to play, I would give her some space and ask again later.”

Stage 3 History

Stage 3 History

Stage 3 has been learning about Australian Colonisation. We have been researching significant events and explorers that impacted Australian colonies. To assist us with this task, we broke off into groups of 5 with each group member researching either a significant event or an explorer. After the research was complete, the students reported back to their group by presenting their findings while the other members took notes. At the end of this step, each group member had learnt about either 5 events or 5 explorers. Next, each explorer group paired with an event group to share their research and finish with knowledge on 5 events and 5 explorers. This was a great opportunity for students to engage in independent research, presenting, note taking and collaboration.

P&C News

Dear Melrose Families,

The P&C would like to thank all families who helped make the Election Day BBQ and Cake Stall a success.

Thank you to families who volunteered and made purchases on the day, donated cakes (they were a hit!) and donated cash.

The BBQ sold out so quickly that we made multiple trips to the shops. The great news is that $3500 in profits were taken for the event. Amazing!

Thank you once again, you have all helped make this a success and the profit will go back to the school and to each and everyone one of your children.

We couldn't have made this a success without our Melrose Park community.

Covid Update

Students and staff who are identified as close contacts will be able to attend school with the following risk mitigations in place:

  • Parents/carers and staff must notify the school if they or their child is a close contact and intends to attend school or work.

  • Students and staff should conduct a daily rapid antigen test (RAT) and receive a negative result each morning before attending school for 5 subsequent school days.

We’d like to remind you to continue to monitor for COVID-19 symptoms and to stay at home and get tested if unwell.

Another set of RAT kits will be sent home with your child today.  Some RAT kits delivered may be either nasal or throat swabs.
