2022 Term 4 Issue 12

From the Principal

Dear families & friends,

It has been another busy and amazing year at Felixstow. In yet another topsy turvy year, our team has again taken on all the challenges thrown our way with commitment and compassion. I am so grateful to be in a community that remains strong and supportive through all the changes and challenges.

It was wonderful to have so many families joining us for the End of Year celebration, I am sure you would agree it was a lovely evening full of smiles, laughter and fun. Thank you everyone for making it such a wonderful night for our children and for each other.

Farewells:

Firstly we want to say farewell and thank you to Milan who bravely stepped into the reception/ year one class this term for one day a week and then for the last two weeks full time for Tuula. He even survived swimming week with our littlest learners. I am sure we will see Milan around with us in the future doing some relief work again. Thank you Milan for jumping in this term.

We also sadly say farewell to Kamal. Kamal has been with us now for 4 years, since 2019, teaching our PE & Health program.  In his time with us he has developed our amazing sports days, built great connections to our local sporting facilities and clubs, arranged countless sports clinics, won many sporting schools grants which has meant we have been able to replace and upgrade our sporting equipment and of course become a strong part of our Felixstow family.

Kamal has decided to leave us and venture into the world to do some travel and exploration. We of course hope he finds his way back to us some day in the future. We will still see Kamal around and about doing some relief work before he heads off on his adventures. I am sure that you will all give him a warm farewell and thank him for everything he has brought to our community.

Thank you Kamal and we wish you all the best for your future and we hope to see you again.

Each volunteer must have from RAN training (online), a current DCSI clearance.

2023 class arrangements—A letter would have come home with your child last week outlining class structures.

The class structures for 2023 will be as follows:

  • Juniors team: Tuula and Nicole—with a Reception/Yr 1 and a Yr 2 group.
  • Primary team: Steve and Laura will work together with a yr 3/4 and a yr 5/6 group.

2022 Leavers—It is that time again where we farewell our leavers and some of their families. We have watched them grow, we have laughed and cried with them and challenged them to be the best version of themselves they can be. We know they are ready to take on the next challenge with strength and pride in themselves. We wish them every success in the future.

As we head into the holiday season please stay safe and enjoy many peaceful and joyful moments with your loved ones and we will see you all on Monday 30th January for Day 1, 2021.

Cheers Skye 😊

Farewell and Good Luck Kamal

Dear all,

Thank you for accepting me as part of such a great community of parents, students and colleagues. I have enjoyed teaching all the kids and at the same time learnt a lot more from them. Every child at the school has transformed me as a human being. I feel blessed to have been at Felixstow at this stage of my life and I am sure I'll be back very soon. I wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Kamal

Year 6 Leavers

Leavers Art

Uncle Cedric is a Ngarrindjeri and Narrunga artist who worked with the Year 6 leavers each week to help them create their leaver's artwork.

They were each given a section on the canvas and asked to create a space which represented themselves. A combination of symbols and words were used to show things they loved, things they will miss and who they are.

Fundraiser

At the start of Term 4, Di worked with the Year 6 student's to start up a fundraiser while learning about math's and finance. They were tasked with deciding what items they could sell that would offer them the best profit.

They decided on selling hot chips and raised a total of $115.00, all of which was donated to the Ronald McDonald House.

"Felixstow Community School, you are the reason we are able to keep these families together tonight -  to give them comfort, and special moments together, before facing another stressful day. And for this I say thank you, from the bottom of my heart" - Barbara Ryan, Chief Executive Officer Ronald McDonald House

Year 6 Aquatics

It was a great day at West Lakes Aquatics for our Year 6 students.

Along with a day of canoeing, sailing, kayaking and boogie boarding, students also learnt about surf safety and skills 🚣

R - 5 Swimming

Week 8 sure was a wet one!! Every day the R - 5 groups caught the public bus to Norwood Swimming Centre for swimming lessons.

Here were some of their favourite activities:

Aaima -"jumping in the deep end with our life jackets"

Dakoda -"on the last day we got to have a dance party in the little pool"

Lunden - "free time in the pool playing volleyball"

Aiden - "going to the deep end with life jackets on because they made you float"

South Pacific School Aid Project

We have put together a collection of guided readers and books recovered from the resource hub flooding to send off to the South Pacific.

    Pupil Free Day

During the Week 7 Pupil Free Day, staff participated in a Berry Street Education Model refresher.

The decision was made that our focus for the new year would be to dedicate more meaningful time into our Nurture Groups each morning.

At Felixstow we start our days with Nurture circle because they; are a great way to check in and out, frame expectations for the day or session and nurture meaningful relationships within the community.

Leading into the holidays here are a few fun ideas you could do with your child during the Summer break, whether it's to keep busy on a long car ride or simply break up a day at home:

    • Scavenger Hunt
    • Brain Teasers
    • Would You Rather?
    • Just Dance
    • Wordle
