Principal's Letter - Mrs Lesley Studans

Dear Parents,

“Compare the pair” of the responses below. The first response is from our Kinder 2020 parents who were asked to tell us their hopes and dreams for their child. The second is the Year 6 students’ responses about their time at St Joseph’s;

Parent of K 2020:

That she will become the person that she wants to be

Year 6 student:

I will miss the comforting faces that helped me to become more outgoing and social when I found it difficult to even talk to someone I didn’t know

K 2020 Parent:

That he will have the attitude to achieve his goals

Year 6 student:

Remember that mistakes help you to learn and stay strong. Try and be as motivational as you can.

K 2020 parent:

That she will be a team leader who will help those around her.

Year 6 student:

Don’t give up and keep trying to reach your goal. Don’t let other people let you down.

K 2020 parent:

That he will make lifelong friendships

Year 6 Student:

What I think I will miss about St Joseph’s is all my friends that are leaving to go to another school because I made really close friends at St Joseph’s.

K 2020 parent:

I hope she develops the skills to follow her dream

Year 6 student:

I will miss the community in the school that supports me in my learning.

And finally from a Year 6 student to a Kindergarten student:

The piece of advice that I would give my Kindergarten self is to always listen and get you work done.

I am a very proud Principal to have so many wise students!

With Kind Regards,

Lesley Studans

2019 Swimming Carnival

On Wednesday 13th November, Mr. Parnis, Mrs. Slater, Mrs Lock, Miss Cassin and I had the pleasure of joining 47 of our superstar swimmers at Riverstone Pool for our annual Swimming Carnival.

We had the most beautiful weather and it was so lovely to see everyone trying their hardest in all of their events.

Congratulations to everyone who entered a race we are so proud of you for giving it a go!

Thanks also goes out to our amazing parent helpers and supporters, these days can’t run without your help so a massive thank you to you!!

The final round of ribbons are written and will be handed out shortly. The age champions and zone team will be announced in the next primary assembly in week 7.

Thank you for your continued support in sport.

Kimberley Turner

Last week during sport time our students were treated to a visit from Renee and Trudy from FNSW . The girls are high profile footballers both having played in the W league . They brought with them a range of knowledge , skills and fun with all our kids having an amazing time and taking home a memento at the end of the day. Thank you to all our students who displayed the upmost respect and positive behavior on the day. Renee and Trudy were very impressed and had nothing but great things to say about our school.

On Wednesday the 13th of November students were treated to a dry land carnival at school . There was plenty of splashing water , smiles and laughter out on the oval as children moved through four activities including sponge dodge,  a swim equipment relay, bull rush with water guns and a water balloon toss . A massive thank you goes to the 15 helpers from years 5 and 6 who were remarkable in running each event and helping Mrs Keith set up in the morning .

Your help is greatly appreciated.

2020 school travel applications now open

To assist with any enquiries you may receive regarding student travel applications, we have provided some information below.

Applications for student travel in 2020 opened on Friday, 11 October 2019.

Students progressing to year 3 and year 7 no longer need to re-apply if they:

·       are continuing at the same school

·       are residing at the same address

·       have not been sent an expiry notification from Transport for NSW.

Where a student meets the new distance eligibility, the system will automatically update their entitlement. If they do not meet the new eligibility, they will receive an expiry notification via email.

Students who have an entitlement approved under a medical condition which is due to expire will receive a notification advising them to re-apply.

Term Bus Pass holders will receive a notification to re-apply.

If students need to update their information or re-apply, they should go online to

Applications need to be submitted before 31 December 2019 to ensure student entitlements are updated and their current entitlement/card is not cancelled. If their application is submitted after 31 December 2019, the system will automatically cancel an entitlement/card and a new one will need to be issued.

Students in the Opal network applying for a SSTS or Term Bus Pass entitlement for the first time will receive their card at their nominated postal address. Cards will be mailed out from January 2020.

Students residing in Rural and Regional (R&R) areas should receive their travel pass at the commencement of the new school year from their nominated operator, this may be distributed via the school or sent direct to their address. Note: some R&R operators do not issue travel passes. Students/Parents should confirm with their nominated operator if they do not receive a pass.

School travel application endorsements

It is not uncommon for applicants completing the online form to make mistakes, particularly entering their name or date of birth instead of the students. This may be due to an auto-fill function on a device or just human error. We ask that school administrators pay special attention to the information supplied by applicants which come through in the school portal. If the information supplied does not match your records or the student is not yet enrolled, please do not endorse the application. By selecting ‘no’ the application will be referred back to the applicant to correct and resubmit.

In the event that school administrators endorse in error, it would be appreciated if you could advise our SSTS team as soon as possible so the application can be intercepted before an Opal card or travel pass is issued.

To contact us about an endorsement error, please go to: and select feedback about: ‘school student transport scheme’ and then select ‘application updates’.

If school administrators require access to the school portal to endorse student applications, please request an account at

If you have staff that have left the school recently and had access to the school portal, please let us know at and select ‘school/operator portal’ and then ‘remove existing user access’ so their access can be removed.
