Term 3 Week 9 2022 Newsletter

The power of persuasion

The strangest thing happened to me on Monday. I'm not exactly sure, I don't remember a lot, but apparently a pigeon principal napped me and wanted to be principal for the day! Can you believe it!? Stage 1 students tell me it was that pesty pigeon from the Mo Willems series. You know, the one who wants to drive a bus and who wants a puppy.  Luckily for me, Stage 1 have been learning how to write persuasive texts all of this term, so they put their pencils to paper and saved me! With words like absolutely, vital and definitely, who could say no!  Don't believe me? See evidence below ... it's fun learning at The Heights!

Have a great week.

At New Lambton Heights Infants School we acknowledge that we teach, learn and play together on the traditional country of the Awabakal people, who are the custodians of this land. We pay our respects to their Elders past and present.

Sports Carnival and Colour Explosion Fun Run

Please hope and wish for fine weather this Friday for our sports carnival and colour run. Since last week, we have doubled our target with over $3000 raised! How fantastic. Don't forget to register ... only 2 sleeps to go.

We are waiting to see how much rain we get today and tomorrow to make a decision if the carnival will go ahead. The grounds are already wet, so more rain will make it very muddy.  We will send a Skoolbag message out by 7:30am on Friday morning to confirm. If we do need to postpone, we will move the carnival and colour run to Term 4 Week 1 - Wednesday.

Thank you to our wonderful SAS Staff

Tell Them From Me - Parent Survey

It's that time of a year again. The Tell Them From Me Parent Survey provides our school with much valued feedback about areas such as wellbeing, learning and school culture. We have also asked some very school specific questions. Last year, one thing the survey informed us was that parents wanted more sporting opportunities for their children. This saw an extra PE session being included in the week and the planning of our half court basketball court (construction to start in Term 4). Please take 10 minutes to complete.

Year 2 Transitions

If your child is in Year 2, you will need to enrol him/her into his/her new school for Year 3. The process is online now, so all you will need to do is go to the Year 3 school website and find the enrolments section. Please be aware that just because your child is enrolled at NLHIS, the information does not automatically roll over to the new school. You will need to go through the application process again for your new school. Local schools are trying to establish their numbers for 2023, so would appreciate your enrolment application to be submitted ASAP.

P&C Update

Colour Explosion Fun Run - DON'T FORGET TO REGISTER ...

The P&C are bringing the Colour Craze to New Lambton Heights Infants School on Friday 16th September 2022 to finish off the Sports Carnival day with a colour explosion fun run. That's 2 sleeps!

This event is free of charge although in return each student will have the opportunity to raise funding for the school playground upgrades via sponsorship.

Sponsorship will run for 4 weeks commencing Friday 19th August 2022 to Friday 16th September 2022. This is a ‘Go Green’ fundraising incentive and for every $20 raised a tree will be planted in a biodiversity hotspot. Planting trees has a positive impact on reducing climate change and ties in with the work the students are doing on materials and habitat destruction. Some families are choosing to plant coral. On the day each student will receive a pair of coloured sun glasses and a headband. Students can wear a white T-Shirt for the run if they like, the shirt to be provided by parents/carers. Please be sure to register so your child receives his/her headband and sunglasses.

GARDENING GURUS ..

A big thank you to Helen and Chris for their efforts with our gardens. Chris has been busy working on the vege patches and Helen has been weeding. We are looking good for Spring! Also thanks to the little fairies (Audrey, Eva and Nina) who have been jazzing up the fairy garden.
