St Mary's Bulletin

Term 2 - Week 5 (31 May, 2019)

From the Principal

Dear St Mary's School Community

Ascension of the Lord

On Sunday, we celebrate the solemnity of The Ascension of the Lord, when Jesus was taken to heaven. Jesus calls every Christian to be his witness and to share his love with others.  He does not only want those with special gifts or knowledge or training.  He wants us all.

Lifelink Day 2019

The LifeLink Day Schools Initiative was established in 1999 to:  ·

·         promote understanding of the Church’s response to people in need within the community;
  • instil in Catholic students attending Archdiocesan Schools, a sense of responsibility for caring for those less fortunate;
  • provide education and information of the work the LifeLink social service agencies which help many thousands of Western Australians in need each year.
  • encourage a “practical demonstration of Faith” by asking students, teachers and schools to organise a special fundraising event for LifeLink Day, with the proceeds aiding people in real need within the community.

At St Mary’s School, we will be celebrating Lifelink Day on Wednesday, June 5.  The children and staff have been asked to come to school wearing their pyjamas for a gold coin donation with the proceeds going towards Lifelink social service agencies.  The school will be gathering for a Liturgy in the morning before completing LifeLink activities during the day.

National Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.  The dates for NRW remain the same each year; 27 May to 3 June. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey— the successful 1967 referendum, and the High Court Mabo decision respectively.

Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The NRW theme for 2019 is:  Grounded in Truth Walk Together with Courage

WA Day

On Monday, 3 June we celebrate WA Day with a public holiday.  In April 2012, Foundation Day was formally changed to WA Day.

WA Day is a universal celebration of all Western Australians, recognising our Aboriginal history, early European settlers and the many people from all over the world who have made, and continue to make, Western Australia their home.

As a vast geographic area comprising many different urban, rural and regional communities, as well as being a very multicultural community, the emphasis for WA Day celebrations is on inclusion of all people no matter how long they have called themselves Western Australians.

Food Allergy Week

This week is Food Allergy Week.  This week aims to raise awareness of food allergy including potentially fatal food allergies.  Allergy and Anaphylaxis Australia (A&AA) is calling on all Australians to unite during this week and Be Aware.  At St Mary’s School, we are allergy aware.

Newsletter – Week Six

Due to Week Six being short there will be no Newsletter coming home on Friday.  The school communication for Week Six will be a Bulletin.

Catholic Leave Day

Just a reminder that Tuesday, 4 June St Mary’s School are having their annual Catholic Leave Day.  Enjoy the extra-long, long weekend with your families.

God Bless

Let Us Pray

Dear Lord Jesus Christ,

right before your Ascension into heaven you told your apostles to be

His witnesses to the ends of the earth upon receiving the Holy Spirit.

May I be similarly inspired to spread your

Gospel message in word and deed,

according to your will for me.

And may I do so prudently and joyfully,

with your help,

your guidance,

and your grace!

And remembering this glorious event,

help me to seek what is above,

Heaven,

where you are seated at the right hand of God the Father!

Amen.
