NB:  Parents are advised that the school will follow health department guidelines regarding air quality and impact of smoke on the day.  Dickson Pool will only be operational if the air quality is deemed appropriate.  We look forward to holding our carnival unless advised that the pool is closed.  Any parents who feel the conditions are not suitable for their child should notify our school office on the day of the carnival by 9am to advise that they are not attending.

Sun Safety Policy

Please see advice below regarding precautions during days of extreme heat.  Our Sun Safety Policy is on our website and can be viewed here .

Days of Extreme Heat

Extreme weather is forecast for today following increasingly hot temperatures through our first week back.  The following strategies will be implemented today to reduce the risk of heat-related illness for students and staff at our school.

  • All classes will be held in air-conditioned rooms. In addition, blinds may be drawn and fans used to assist circulating cooling air.
  • Students will be encouraged to drink water throughout the day and be allowed to have their drink bottles in the classroom.
  • Students will remain indoors during lunch and recess times having access to alternative activities.
  • Teachers will ensure all students have fresh air breaks and access to bubblers and toilets.
  • Teachers will monitor the wellbeing of our students with a diagnosed health condition throughout the day.
  • If any student displays signs or symptoms of heat related illness, we will implement first aid procedures and inform parents.

Parents are encouraged to provide additional water bottles for their children and to supervise the application of sunscreen with their child prior to coming to school.  On any school day, students are able to bring their own sunscreen to reapply at suitable times through the day.  We recommend small, roll-on containers of sunscreen.

Considerations regarding the impact of bushfire smoke

As instructed by the Department of Education, our school will follow the guidelines of NSW Health regarding considerations on the impact of bushfire smoke.  We will be monitoring the air quality carefully and and make adjustments to daily activities as required.

Outside activities will be limited during this time and cancelled during periods of poor air quality. With regards to playtime, we will provide  alternative arrangements and games to reduce active play outside during this period of impact from smoke.

Parents of students with health concerns will be asked to review and/or update their child's health care plan and appropriate accommodations will be implemented at all times.  Any  Parents who have any particular concern for their own child are welcome to contact the class teacher and ask for support to address their child's needs. Should you consider your child to be at undue risk on any given day, you are asked to advise the school and supervise your child at home.
