On Monday morning, MCE received a delivery of an incubator and some chicken eggs. We have lots of information to read and follow to ensure that the incubator is doing its job and we will have healthy chicks in 21 days.
Dear Parents and Carers,
This week we celebrate Book Week. Book Week puts a spotlight on authors, illustrators and children's literature.
Reading is such an important skill that opens pathways and opportunities to students. Reading is fundamental to function in today's society. It is vital in finding a good job, many well-paying jobs require reading as a part of job performance. Reading develops the mind. The mind is a muscle, it needs exercise. Understanding the written word is one way the mind grows in its ability. Teaching young children to read helps them develop their language, spelling and writing skills.
Reading develops the imagination and creativity. It also develops good self-image. Non-readers or poor readers often have a low opinion of themselves and their abilities. They can feel isolated and behaviour problems can surface. Students can also perform poorly in other subject areas. There are many other benefits to reading, however, these are just some to name a few. Finally, reading is important because words - spoken and written - are the building blocks of life.
As many of us focus on Book Week as an opportunity to dress up, it is more important to focus on reading with your child or discussing what your child is reading and the benefits that they feel they get from reading.
Are you being a role model by reading in front of your child?
