Principal's Pen

Dear Parents & Community Members,

Welcome to the new school term – with an extra special welcome to our new families.

On a personal note, I am extremely happy to be back at school and highly appreciative of all efforts and progress of staff while I was on leave following knee surgery.  My sincere thanks to Catherine Rudd for assuming the Principal’s role during this time; the challenges Mrs Rudd faced during this time were significant and, on every occasion, her professionalism was highly evident.  My appreciation also to Jacinta Stephens for accepting the Associate Principal’s position and offering such wonderful support.  Initially this was for a short-term period although complications to my procedure meant this was more protracted.

You will note from the Term Planner we face a busy term ahead so please make note of important dates.

Finally, please look out for the Steve Manzoney Award nomination process.  Steve was a highly valued member of our school community and the award named in his honour is to recognise a person within our community that has gone above and beyond in the support of children associated with Glengarry Primary School.

Important Information

Steve Manzoney Award - Nominations

This is an annual award presented at the Year 6 Graduation Ceremony in December.

The award has been in place since 2004 and was established to honour the hard work and commitment to the school and Duncraig community by one of our parents, Mr Steve Manzoney who sadly passed away in September 2004. In 1999 Steve took up a position on the P&C social committee and committed an enormous amount of time and energy organising a variety of functions that raised valuable funds for the school and brought the community together. In 2001 he also was the P&C Treasurer.  He was always willing to lend a hand around the school, helping out on carnival days and other school events. He was someone you could rely on.  Steve was also involved in the Duncraig community, coaching basketball, umpiring T-ball and actively involved in the junior football as a coach and runner.

We are now requesting nominations for this award.  The criteria can be found on the nomination form which can be downloaded within this article.  A copy will also be sent via Connect.

Please return the form to the office marked “Attention to the Principal” by Friday, November 4th.

Mathematics in Room 11

Jake.M in Room 11 recently acquired 1044.5 jelly beans after spending three days predicting the total number in the jar. In line with learning objectives aligning to Statistics and Probability in Mathematics,  Jake harnessed the power invested by a small group of friends and leant on various strategies and hints provided through the week to claim his prize.

Jake is now the envy of his peers!

Remember to brush your teeth Jake, or your relationship with your Dentist might intensify.

Health and Hygiene

Is your child feeling unwell?

If your child is unwell with cold and flu symptoms, please keep them at home and consider checking in with your GP if symptoms don't resolve

Healthy WA also recommends seeking a COVID test for cold and flu symptoms.  See links below for more info.

Department of Health LINK

DoE LINK

As directed by our guidelines, we will ask for your child to be collected if they are displaying cold symptoms such as a cough, runny nose, fever etc.

We have a student at school who is immunocompromised.  This means they can potentially become gravely ill even when contracting a common cold/virus.  Please be mindful of sending students to school when they are unwell, as they may spread their infection.  Please speak with your GP/health professional and see the information in the links above re: advice about keeping your child at home when unwell.

P&C News

Looking for Legends!

New experiences, meeting new people, learning new skills, sharing your knowledge or just helping out.

The P&C fundraising committee is looking to meet new people.

Through planning, promoting and managing events throughout the school year (for example School Disco, Colour Blast, Campout, Christmas Carols) the P&C fundraising committee supports the funding of the Glengarry Primary School P&C projects and more importantly brings the school community together.

There are many tasks that can be done outside of work/school hours. There is no obligation, help out once or as many times as you like.

Please get in touch with the P&C if this sounds like you.
