Term 2 Week 6 2022

Acknowledgement of Country

We would like to acknowledge Goulburn as an important meeting place that was inhabited, at first contact with Europeans, by the Gundungurra and Ngunawal people who are the traditional custodians of this land. We would like to pay respect to Elders both past, present and future, also extending that respect to other Aboriginal people present today on the land in which we meet, work and live.

News from the South

Thank you to the P&C

I would like to start this fortnight's newsletter by sincerely thanking our P&C, in particular, Scott, Lisa and Robyn, for their outstanding effort in raising funds through the election day BBQ and raffle. It is a big effort and a long day in which they dedicated their time to and as a school we cannot thank them enough. The P&C play a pivotal role in contributing to the decisions for our school and I implore many of our community members to come along to a meeting! The next one will be at the end of this term so keep your eye out for the details!

 Staff update

As 2/3H were informed earlier this week, Mrs Harrison will be taking leave for Semester 2 of this year (Terms 3 and 4). Fortunately, Mrs Manning will be returning to GSPS and has kindly agreed to take 2/3H for the remaining two terms which provides a friendly and familiar face for the students!

 Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. Goulburn South PS have thoroughly enjoyed running the Yarn Up with a family on Monday and our open day Thursday 2nd June. It is lovely to continue to build our relationships with our community through these events and I would like to sincerely thank all the staff involved in the preparation and running of the days. Monica, our Aboriginal Education Officer has completed the school mural with all of the students and we will be organising an official opening, all being well for Monday 20 June.

2/3H

The students in 2/3H have been very busy this term in science, history and writing. The students have been looking at the past Vs the present, spending time learning about artefacts and searching the school grounds for any hidden treasures. They were so excited to find and talk about the old school bell, still in good working condition and discussed many reasons as to how and when it was used in the past. Last week we spent time learning about the Earth, moon and sun in science. The children worked really hard on Friday creating constellations using toothpicks and marshmallows. each constellation was unique and cleverly designed and created. In writing we have been focusing on persuasive texts based on the picture book "Don't Let The Pigeon Drive The Bus!" Well done 2/3H
