Term 2 Week 3

Principal’s Message

Greetings from Mr Tsakissiris

Hello Dudley Public School! It is with great enthusiasm and privilege that I introduce myself as the new principal of Dudley PS. My name is Chad Tsakissiris and I am thrilled to be your new school principal. I would like to thank everyone for the warm welcome over the last few days. The staff have been amazing at teaching me the Dudley way and I can see why they love working at Dudley PS each day. The students have greeted me in the classrooms and playground with warm smiles and friendly ‘hellos’. I had the privilege of meeting some of our dedicated parents at Monday night’s P&C meeting and could clearly see their passion and commitment to the school through the dedication and care when discussing school issues. I would like to thank Mr Kelly who has done an exceptional job as Relieving Principal in leading the school from the beginning of the year and I am looking forward to working alongside him into the future.

I believe that schools are primarily people places where everyone comes together to build a positive and supportive learning environment where our students can learn, thrive and grow in every way. My leadership is student-centered and my decision making will always have the best interests of the children as the focus. I value and respect the important role that community has in supporting a successful school and I have no doubt that the Dudley families will continue to do what they do best in supporting the school, staff and students in moving forward and being the best we can everyday. I am approachable and enjoy interacting with the school community on a daily basis to effectively lead the school. I endeavour to lead inclusively with respect, integrity, equity and fairness at Dudley Public School.

I look forward to meeting more of you over the coming weeks.

 NAPLAN 2022

Our Year 3 and 5 students began their NAPLAN tests today. The students will complete four assessments in the areas of writing, reading, language conventions and numeracy. We are proud of each student in doing the best that they can in each test and we give them our full support over the coming days. Results will be shared with parents and carers later in the year.

 Public Works

We thank our families for being flexible over the last few weeks with the traffic changes on Boundary Street. We understand it is an inconvenience, however it is important to continue to minimise the cars using this road access by parking on Ocean St before and after school. Families should use the designated crossing on Ocean St to enter and exit the school each day until works have been completed. This will ensure everyone is safe during the time of the road improvements.

This Saturday will see the work zone on the corner of Boundary and Ocean St move slightly into our playground. The footpath and fencing near our hall will be worked on this Saturday (14 May) by Lake Macquarie Council. This should not impact on our use of the area upon our return to school on Monday next week.

 Uniform

Our students wear their uniform with pride everyday and it is wonderful to see the respect and unity that our uniform provides the entire student body. As the coming weeks and months are bringing cooler weather we remind students to continue wearing our school jumpers each day and ensure their names are clearly marked on them. Hats are also a requirement to play outside during our break times, so we remind students to bring their hat to school everyday. Our Uniform has a range of uniform purchasing options which you can view on our website. Alternatively, you can view a range of second hand clothing available for a small donation in the school office foyer.  https://dudley-p.schools.nsw.gov.au/about-our-school/school-uniform.html

Have a wonderful week everyone,

Chad Tsakissiris

Celebrating our Dudley Mums!

What a beautiful morning we had on Friday! Thank you so much mums, nans, grandmas, and even a few dads, who came along to help us celebrate the amazing females in our lives. The sun came out for the morning, and it was so lovely to share a breakfast with you all.

As well as having a great start to the morning, we managed to raise over $1,000 towards our school creative arts program.

A huge thank you to all our amazing staff who gave up their mornings to cut up rolls, to bbq, set up, pack away, man the photo booth, set out the nail polish… the list goes on! Your time and efforts were VERY much appreciated by the community. Get excited dads… it’s your turn next! 😊

Kindergarten Cuteness!

Last Friday it was Kindergarten's turn to celebrate their mums with an amazing Assembly Item. They showed off their beautiful artwork, there was public speaking (in front of a HUGE audience!), and great dance moves from the smallest groovers in the school Thank you to Mrs Hunt and Mrs Friend for organising such a special performance.

Library

From the Library...

We are looking forward to a busy term here in the library. It was wonderful to welcome all students back to regular library sessions again this term. We are settling back in with lessons based on how to use the library and understanding how it is organised, with all students exploring the space and discovering the new books that have been added to our collection thanks to Book Club and the hugely successful Book Fair at the end of term four.

Lessons will continue this term with a focus on information seeking and use, using technology to solve a problem or produce a response and selecting appropriate books to promote a love of literature and reading for pleasure. Students across the school are completing the Premier's Reading Challenge and those in years three to six will complete their reading logs online independently. I will complete reading logs for students in years K to two. We will also participate in National Simultaneous Story time during week five of this term.

As always, our focus in term three will be on Book Week, celebrating Australian children's literature culminating in the ever-popular Book Week Parade - more information to come! The theme this year is "Dreaming with eyes open", so get your thinking caps on and start designing those wonderful costumes! Please remember to bring a library bag for your library day and to return your books on time. Book Club brochures will be sent home later this term. All purchases earn rewards for our library. If there are any wonderful members of our community who are a whizz at covering books and would like to volunteer to help in the library, we have a huge backlog of new resources that have not made it on to the shelves yet. If you would like to come in one afternoon to lend a hand, please email me @ eimear.dunne@det.nsw.edu.au

Happy reading!
