St Mary's Bulletin

Term 3 - Week 7 (4 September, 2020)

From the Principal

Dear St Mary's School Community

Fathers Day Breakfast and Liturgy

We were blessed with a beautiful morning for our Father’s Day Breakfast and Liturgy this morning. We had a wonderful turn out of dads, granddads and significant males join us – the children were so excited to share the morning with the males in their lives.  Thank you to Mrs O’Malley for organising the liturgy and coordinating the breakfast, to the Year Six students who led the liturgy and to the St Mary’s staff who were up early to cook the breakfast and set up!

St Mary’s Day 2020

St Mary’s Day will be held next Friday, 11 September.  The day will begin with a Liturgy in the Undercover Area beginning at 10.15am, which everyone is welcome to attend. The children will then do activities related to our school in their classrooms before participating in a whole school tabloid sports in the afternoon.  A sausage sizzle lunch will be provided and a treat.  If you do not wish for your child to have a sausage sizzle lunch then please provide lunch for them.

Jumps and Throws

We had a beautiful day weather wise for our Jumps and Throws on Monday.  A big thank you to Mrs Criddle for her organisation, to all the parents who helped out (the day couldn’t have happened without you) and to those that came to watch and cheer on the children.  The biggest thank you goes out to the students who as always displayed great sportsmanship, enthusiasm and team spirit.

Athletics Carnival

We were blessed with sensational spring weather for the Athletics Carnival today.  It was wonderful to see so many families who came along to support the children.  A carnival like today can only take place with everyone working together- so a big thank you to Kevin Southcott and Marcia Sayers who helped with line marking, to everyone who helped set up and pack away, to the P & F who catered morning tea, to Lloyd Maloney and Sarah Carr who made the podium, to the St Mary’s staff who are always so amazing, especially Elisha Criddle for coordinating the whole day and finally to the students whose sense of friendship, collegiality and sportsmanship was once again on display.  Congratulations to St Joseph who won the Marching Shield and to Mackillop who won by 2 points over Salvatorians and St Joseph who came equal second  – an amazing result to cap off a wonderful day!

St Mary's School Strategic Plan Update

The St Mary's School Strategic Plan will outline where the school would like to be in the future and how it will achieve this. It will be aligned to the Catholic Education Western Australia (CEWA) four pillars of Catholic Identity, Education, Community and Stewardship which guide all Catholic Schools in Western Australia.

The School Board has engaged Caroline Robinson from the Wheatbelt Business Network to assist in developing the School’s Strategic Plan to 2023. Recently ,staff participated in an afterschool workshop centred on the school’s current performance under the CEWA pillars. The P and F participated in an evening session which discussed the values of the school community and how they shaped education at St Mary's School. Shortly, the School Board will take part in a workshop on their roles and responsibilities in monitoring the achievements under the Strategic Plan.

A further session will be held with staff on the strategies of the Plan and its performance indicators as well as work towards their performance as a high functioning team. Caroline will then work closely with mel and Leadership Team to write and present the Strategic Plan to the Board.

If any parents would like to have input into the Plan but could not attend the P and F meeting, Caroline can be emailed at: eo@wheatbeltbusinessnetwork.com.au

2021

If your family is not returning to St Mary’s in 2021 could you kindly advise the office at admin@stmarysmerredin.wa.edu.au by the end of Term Three.  This will enable us to plan effectively for 2021. This does not apply to the students in Year Six in 2020 who are leaving to attend secondary school.

Happy Father’s Day

Wishing all the St Mary’s dads, granddads and significant males a wonderful day of rest, relaxation and pampering on Sunday!  I’m sure that your children will make sure that you know how loved and special you are!

God Bless and have a lovely weekend with your families,

Ms Adriana Coniglio
