Principal's Message

A warm welcome to all our Students, Parents, Staff and Friends of St Matthew’s,

Well, here we are 3 ½ weeks to go until the end of the school term and what a finish to the year it will be. I cannot emphasise enough all the upcoming dates, both for the remainder of the year and for the commencement of next year. Please check through all the dates that will concern you, highlight them and put them in your diary or phone or on the fridge. Please do this instead of ringing the office when you have all this information at your fingertips.

Also, please read the information regarding next year’s Testing days. There will also be further information regarding these coming home in the last week of this term.

READY SET PREP NUMBER 4

Last Friday we continued our very successful sessions of Ready Set Prep, with Session 3 on Literacy – Reading the story of Mrs Wishy Washy. It was a huge success with next year’s Prep students. Mrs Alex Matzaris our Prep/1/2 Literacy Leader did a wonderful job. This coming Friday is Session 4, also Literacy, will be focussing on the students fine Motor Skills – Writing. Mrs Matzaris will also be running this session. We look forward to seeing all of next year’s Preps and their parents on Friday at 9:30am in the Library.

ANNUAL CHRISTMAS CAROLS

Yes, our Annual Christmas Carols are back live for the first time since 2019. They will take place on Tuesday 6th December. As mentioned on the “Dates to Remember” our school gates between the Church and the Parish House will open at 5:00pm for access to the Food Trucks. If you don’t want food from the food trucks you can bring you own dinner from home or the local Fish ‘N Chip’ or Pizza Shops. Your choice.

The Carols will commence at 6:30pm and go to approximately 7:30pm/8:00pm. The stage will be the veranda that faces the Soccer Field. Parents can bring a picnic rug or low chairs to sit on. The performing and seating areas will be sectioned off with cones.

Now if the weather is way to cold or wet we will hold the Carols in the Hall with all the seating set out before hand. The carols will still go ahead no matter what the weather is like. Prior to our Lockdown years, we were very fortunate with 3 years of mid to high 20-degree evenings, which was ideal. Let us pray for a lovely evening once again.

WHOLE SCHOOL SPORT COLOUR DAY

This will also be going ahead on Friday week 2nd December. Some parents have been concerned that they do not know what colour house their child is in. All students will be notified/reminded tomorrow, whether they are old, new or have forgotten. All family members automatically go into the same colour Sport House as an older/younger sibling.

Parents if you are helping at events you will need proof of your "Working with Children Check” when signing in at the office.

Any parents who wish to be spectators you will need to sign in and then gather and stay in the designated spectator area, not mingle amongst the students, for safety and health reasons. We look forward to it being another great school event.

Let’s pray for some better, more consistently warm and sunny weather. It is nearly summer. Bring it on!

Yours Sincerely,

Bob Brown - Principal

PRAYER FOR THE WEEK

First Sunday of Advent

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

ADVENT: HOPE

God of our waiting, we light this candle to remind us of the great promise that your Son, Jesus, will be born anew among us. We pray that you may deepen our awareness of the mystery of God in our lives, as revealed in your Son, Jesus. Amen

The first week of Advent begins this weekend, a time of preparation and remembrance. Our preparation is for the "King of kings" that we celebrate today, hoping and expecting that He will come into our hearts and homes on Christmas day with all the peace and joy that only a loving God and Saviour could bring.

The remembrance is of the time He came to earth 2000 years ago as an infant to begin the Christian era with the divine gift of salvation, which He holds out to all who are willing to commit themselves to His way of living.

Paying attention to the “now” of Christ’s presence is a challenge at this time of year. So much is happening around us, so many things to complete, so many things to prepare for.

The secret – it’s simple Hold fast to one word in our hearts – that word is EMMANUAL which means God is with us.

LEARNING AND TEACHING

2023 Testing Days for students

An important part of beginning school is for us to get to know your child’s strengths in English and Mathematics. All students in years Prep -6  will be asked to book in for a two-hour time slot. During this time, they will set up their books and stationery and sit either English or Mathematics assessments. This is a great opportunity for students to spend some time in a small group with their new teacher.  We are committed to giving your child the best possible start for their school year, and beyond.

The testing days will be:

Monday 30th January and Tuesday 31st January from 9-11am OR 11.40-1.40pm.

Further information regarding these sessions and how to book your child/ren in for their session will come home in the last week of term.
