Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers

We are halfway through the term already!

The building works are well underway with the full demolition of the RBH almost complete. I am excited to see the works develop over the coming weeks.

We have purchased some portable basketball hoops for the children to play with. These came about under popular demand and a very active student voice! I am very aware of the risks we run having portable set ups in school grounds and am hopeful that as a community we can be vigilant looking after them.

I am aware that the school is used throughout the weekend by many people in our community and over the past few weekends there has been some vandalism. We are working towards installing a CCTV system soon with Schools Security so we should be able to reduce this mindlessness soon enough.

It was great to hear today that we will not need to wear face coverings going into next week. We can return to normal drop off and pick up arrangements as of Monday. You are welcome to come say hi to the teachers and drop your children in class. Physical distancing is still to be considered as well as face masks should physical distancing not be possible, especially indoors.

LEARNING CELEBRATION AND PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS

On Thursday 4th March we will be holding our first learning celebration for 2021. This is an open classroom session – come along and share your child’s classroom and their learning to date. In the following week, week 7, we will hold Parent Teacher Interviews. This is an opportunity for you to have an open discussion with the teacher about your child’s learning progress. Later in the year there will be a Three Way Conference.

It is important to remember that you are always welcome to meet with your class teacher and I encourage you to make appointments throughout the year to touch base and talk about your child’s learning progress.

The aims of the interviews and conferences are to:

  • Reinforce the home-school partnership

  • Build relationships & increase understandings

  • Improve student learning & enhance student achievement

If you were not able to attend an interview, please do not hesitate to get in touch with your class teacher and arrange a meeting at any time during the term.

BADGE AND JUMPER PRESENTATION ASSEMBLY

On Friday 12th March we will present our School Captains and SRC with their badges at assembly. At the assembly, we will meet and greet all of the leaders from across the Y6 group as they are presented with their Y6 hoodies. Please come along to join us from approximately 3pm in the library. Please enter from the back of the building.

HELPING OUT

There are many ways to get involved in our school community. Through our class reps, PFA, working groups, in class reading support, excursions, incursions and many other incidental and highly appreciated acts. School Council and subcommittees is one way that you can be involved with the goings on at Parkhill.

For many parents working full time means that it is tricky for you to come into school during the day.  School Council is a group of parents, teachers and community members that meet twice a term, eight times a year to discuss and make decisions regarding the governance of matters at Parkhill. Information about how you can sign up will follow next week. The working group and committee that help us as a school to operate in 2021 include:

Policy Committee (meeting monthly)

Buildings and Grounds Working Group (meeting 1 - 2 times per term as needed)

If you would like any information about these groups and are interested in being part of them, then please email me or call the office.

REMINDERS

  • 2021 school fees (Essential Education Items) are overdue – if you have not yet paid this fee please contact the office ASAP. A statement will be issued next week if your account is outstanding. It is important to note that the school has to subsidise any fees that are not paid by families. These subsidies are paid out of our curriculum budgets.

  • Morning drop off: Supervision on the playground is only from 8:45am.

  • Parent Teacher interviews will be held on 9th/10th March - further details will follow.
