St John the Baptist Ferntree Gully Newsletter

We are looking forward to our swimming carnival for our Year 3-6 students on Tuesday 25th October at Aquatic Achievers, St Joseph’s College, Ferntree Gully.  The students will participate in events, including individual swimming races, team relays with some fun novelty events to be enjoyed.  All parents, grandparents and supporters are welcome on the day.

Year 3/4      12:30 - 1:30pm

Year 5/6     1:30 - 2:30pm

As a staff we give significant time and consideration to your child’s class placement each year.  We look at the academic, social and emotional needs of all of the children and work on creating the most positive class groupings to ensure that each child will transition well into their new class and flourish throughout the year.  I am very grateful that for most part our parents trust the staff and the decisions we make for your child’s class placement.  In exceptional circumstances we understand that sometimes families may need to make a class placement request for their child.  

If you have a request for your child’s placement next year you will need to place it in writing via email, no later than Tuesday October 18th.

Our Transition Program for our 2023 Preps will continue  on Tuesday 25th October from 9:00am-10:30am.  We are looking forward to sharing another exciting morning with many new and existing families.

All children should now be in their full summer school uniform.  As part of our sunsmart policy the children are expected to wear a hat when playing outside.  Our no hat, no play policy will be implemented at the beginning of the Term.  I have listed below the correct summer school uniform and thank you for your support in ensuring that your child/ren come to school wearing their correct uniform.

Congratulations to Louis (Prep S)  who participated in the bmx state titles in Bendigo last weekend.  Louis represents the local Knox BMX club and will be in the Australian national championships in Launceston in November.   Go Louis!

After a two-year COVID induced break, the SSV Summer Sport Competition was back last Thursday. The Grade 5/6 students, along with Zaylen, Josh and Sam from Grade 4, proudly represented SJB in Basketball, Softball, Cricket and Tennis. Each team experienced the joy that competing can bring, celebrating victories and commiserating losses with one another. A big thank you to the parents and staff who made the day possible by stepping up to score, umpire and coach when needed.

Jay O'C - for excellent learning in reading, writing and maths and being a positive member of the classroom.

Year 5/6FJ

Alxys L - for showing care and support for those around. Alxys you are showing great leadership skills to ensure each person has a voice.

Oscar O - for persisting during the Summer Sports softball carnival and showing tremendous growth over the day. Your enthusiasm was noticed by all around you. Well done on giving it your all.

Chase R - for taking charge of the catcher's plate in the annual Softball Sports Day. You took the lead and noticed when the team needed uplifting and lead extremely well.  You have such a knack for leading your peers. Well done.

Year 5/6RJ

Justin R - for demonstrating a great attitude towards all of your learning and showing excellent thinking in Maths when solving problems. Well done Justin.
