Leaders induction
Well done to all of our new leaders for 2020. Mrs Arnot organised a whole school assembly and conducted a terrific induction for our student leaders, sports leaders and I-Centre leaders. These positions have all been organised and the children should be very proud on their selections for this year.
The school and sports leaders were organised late last term and the I-Centre (library) positions were organised this term with Mrs Adams taking nominations. They are all terrific opportunities for children and each hold various specific roles across the school.
The inductions were well supported by parents and families with many photos being taken.
We thank the Parents and Citizens organisation for their support with blazers, jackets and shirts as without their tireless support with fundraising we would not have such vibrant looking leaders.
Captains - Mia and Tevita
Vice Captains - Cassidy and Charlie
Prefects - Ziying, Ryan, Ava and Vance
We also met our Sports House Captains and Vice Captains and our iCentre Leaders.
Good luck leaders in your various roles, we are certain you will represent Wyong Public School proudly in 2020!
Swimming carnival 2020
The annual swimming carnival kicked off another year of sport for the school and it was very well attended from students turning 8 years and above. We did need to push the carnival and remind all students that we expect them to attend (whether you compete or not). It is a school day and all children should be able to attend. It is concerning the amount of children who do not attend the carnival and stay home. I can understand students who are not confident swimmers but this does not stop them from attending the day to support their fellow sport house mates.
Thank you to Mr McGuinness and his strong team of organisers who have put on a superb carnival at Wyong pool. We thank the staff and also parent volunteers for their time and management of the day to ensure it is enjoyable and fun for all. We had some wonderful supportive parents and families helping out with the timekeeping which helps to make the event run smoothly.
The carnival is an important one in terms of swimming competitively and also allowing our children to participate in non-competitive events. I am very supportive of all things sport and also wish to stress the importance of children learning to swim (for survival). We as a school support the swimming program each year in term 4 and will do so again this year. Last year we heavily subsidised the learn to swim program and saw increased numbers of students who attended, and we hope that this leads to more children being competent swimmers which means more students competing at our school carnival. We have applied for more spaces for this years learn to swim program in term 4.
All results for the school carnival will be published in the next newsletter.
Refurbishments for this year
During the year we will have a range of refurbishment programs being completed. This will include classrooms and administration areas gaining new carpets ( year 2, 3 and 4 classrooms) as well as the completion of painting in storerooms and wet areas throughout the school.
Last year you may recall that many classrooms were re-painted and these work's have all been completed.
The support classes will receive new toilet facilities including a shower area in Mrs Bourkes wet area which will be a terrific addition and much needed.
We have also added some minor fencing to the boundaries near the carpark to provide more safety for students.
We are also planning to have an upgrade of the student toilets near the canteen and plans are also under way for some of the other student toilets across the school to have some refurbishments completed this year.
It will take some time but they will be completed.
Breakfast Club
We also remind students and parents that breakfast club is now located near the canteen each morning from 8:15 am. Our new out of school hours service (Wesley Mission) is using the SACC centre for this year hence the change in venue for breakfast club.
This is school and community funded and we expect all children who attend to be courteous and respectful of the wonderful volunteers and staff who supervise this program.
