Developing the habit of going to school every day is vitally important so your child does not miss out on important ideas and skills they need for future learning. That is why we strongly encourage you not to go on family holidays during school time.
While it can be tempting to take advantage of discount offers for accommodation and flights, we strongly encourage you to organise holidays during school holiday periods to make sure your child doesn’t miss out on school.
We do understand that at times, particularly for the large proportion of our community with family overseas, in-term travel may be hard to avoid. If this is the case please contact me via email, Sarah.Dawson@education.wa.edu.au to let me know about your travel plans. I will then be able to tell you what learning your child would be missing out on as well as what their general attendance levels are for your consideration.
Schools can record absences due to holidays using the ‘K – unauthorised holiday’ or ‘V – authorised holiday’ lesson attendance codes. The principal has the authority to determine which code is most applicable for each circumstance. As a general rule at Scarborough PS, if you have emailed me about your plans AND your child’s attendance is generally above the acceptable level of 90%, we will mark your absence as a V. If not, it will be marked as a K.
Please note, there is no requirement within the School Education Act 1999 or School Education Regulations 2000 for teachers to provide a work package.
