FROM THE PRINCIPAL

The bigger picture...

It's so heartwarming to know that Balmain Public School has so many students who think beyond themselves and want to make a difference.

The 'Spider Stall' crew, featuring in the photo, have raised an outstanding $540.65 for Ms Pauline's Garden! What a fabulous bunch of students!

As you know, Sylvie decided to cut off her ponytail for the World's Greatest Shave, helping kids with Leukaemia. I can only imagine that it's not an easy thing saying goodbye to your hair, however, Sylvie is another example of doing something for the bigger picture and helping others! Apart from the overall financial contribution of $1,311.63 to the Leukaemia Foundation, Sylvie's hair will help in making wigs for kids with Leukaemia. Look out for before and after pics...You can still donate here.

Thanks so much to all of you who are making a difference in this world, however big or seemingly small!

Mrs Maria Lambos - Principal

Helping kids with Leukaemia...

First of all, I want to say thank you to everyone who donated on Friday. We raised over $70!

I am so happy that my hair is gone for a good cause to make wigs for children with Leukaemia.

My hair is now 30 centimetres shorter than it was on Friday! The lovey ladies at Kamil’s Hair Salon were so nice, and in three snips my pony tail was gone. I have no regrets, and am so happy with the amount of money we raised.

Overall, my dad and I have raised $1,311.63! Thank you again to everyone who donated!

COVID-19 Statistics Website

During a time of uncertainty for us all regarding COVID-19, here is a website that captures and consistently updates the worldwide statistics surrounding COVID-19:

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

As an example, from the above images, although there has been in overall increase in the statistics across the world in 95 minutes, Australia's figures have remained the same.

We can only hope that Australian figures will remain low...

FROM YOUR P&C

Week 7 update from the P&C executive...

P&C Events and COVID -19

Hi all, The P&C Exec have made a call to postpone the upcoming Parents' Social Night because of the rapidly evolving situation with the Coronavirus. If you have already bought tickets, they will be refunded.

It’s the right call given the fact that most events and activities around the country have now been called off, but it also means we lose an important fundraising opportunity for our school.

Our main fundraiser, the Balmain Fun Run, is also in doubt which means we will need to think hard about what support we can provide this year.   We’ll soon be sending you all an email about the voluntary P&C Contribution Fund. We need your help, now more than ever, to help top up investment in our school.

We all know the State Government funds public schools but there’s a big gap between what they give us and what we actually need. That gap means our children can miss out on vital resources that other schools take for granted.

So please keep an eye out for the email next week.

COVID-19

I know many of you are wondering if and when our school will need to shutdown and what that means for our children’s learning.

We’re working with Maria to understand the impacts and how we can all support the school and our children. It’s important to understand that the school will be guided in terms of any action by the NSW Department of Education.

We’ll discuss this all at the next P&C meeting on Wed 1 April so make sure you join us. We may need to hold the meeting online depending on how things go!

At this stage, the advice from the NSW Chief Medical Officer is that it is safe for children to still be in school.

Shehana, Cliff, Victoria & Alvin - P&C Executive

Winter is coming!

The uniform stall sample cupboard has now been transitioned to winter stock. All items are available to view/try.

The winter tunic is available to view/try, and pre-order. All other items are available to purchase.

Summer stock is still available to purchase, but is no longer on display.Winter uniform can be ordered online, for delivery to classroom:https://bps-uniform-stall.square.site/

School Uniforms

Our regular opening hours are 8:15 - 9am on Friday mornings during school terms, on the middle floor of the main building - enter from Ms Pauline's Garden stairs.

If your child has grown out of some items that are still wearable, the uniform stall would love to receive your donated school uniforms!

All donations should be clean, and still wearable / saleable. All funds raised from second chance sales go back to buying resources for our school!

Please bring donations to the uniform stall on Friday mornings, or leave in the labelled box near the office.

If you can spare an hour a term on a Friday morning to help at the uniform stall, please get in touch with Lyndal and Josie, via balmainpsuniforms@gmail.com. All help is greatly appreciated and funds raised go back to supporting the school.
