Principal's Report

Hello everyone and a special hello to the new families who have joined our school this term. I met some new faces on my return from leave last week and also received a lovely welcome back from students of all sizes!

At Beerwah State School, we strive to be a real school community; where all are welcome and together we help students learn and grow to be the best they can be. To do this we rely on the communication and feedback within our community; both the everyday conversations and organised surveys.

Thank you to those parents and carers who attended the parent-teacher interviews in Week 1 and who were able to provide feedback on the 2022 highlights so far.

The above represents the Stars from ‘Two Stars and a Wish’ and the latter will be looked at by staff and the P&C Association to inform school planning. A repeated item in the wishes was that the Tuckshop was open more days. It would be great to have a Tuckshop that was open two days a week, which is the recommended days for a school of our size so that the Tuckshop does not run at a loss. The P&C Association cannot do this without more volunteers. The school and P&C Association are continuing to implement payments through the QKR! app. This is a relatively new system and the wish feedback received for this will be very helpful.

Fun Friday – Supersized!

This week, at our special Book Week Parade there was a special launch of Fun Friday – Supersized! Last semester, the PBL (Positive Behaviour for Learning) Team investigated ways to refresh Fun Friday as an opportunity for the whole school to celebrate student efforts to be the best they can be each and every day.

The Supersized Fun Friday has a whole school goal  starting this week of earning 20 000 kandoos to achieve a whole school reward activity.  Student Leaders explained on parade that all students will have the chance to contribute ideas for this through class discussion.  I told the students on parade that I was very confident they would quickly get to that goal as more than 22 000 kandoos had been earned in weeks 1 -5 of this term. Keep an eye out for the Kandoo Target Tracker around the school.

Responsive support for students with disability

The Department of Education has released a new resource allocation model for students with a disability, replacing the Education Adjustment Program. Students with disability.  Resourcing for reasonable adjustments (RAR) provides additional teachers and teacher aides to enable us to make reasonable adjustments for students with a disability. This is great news for our students with a disability, as resources will be provided for the adjustments students need to learn and achieve. Find out more on the Education website

READING (TEXT COMPREHENSION)

Text comprehension is the ability to respond to, interpret, analyse and evaluate texts. When reading to, or with a child, there are many opportunities to engage them in text comprehension. This can happen before reading, during reading and after reading. In order for children to effectively comprehend a text they need to have – background knowledge, vocabulary understanding and literacy knowledge. In the video you will see how each of these are discussed with the child prior to reading commencing.

Matt Deady (HODC)

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book.

How you will receive the reminder notice:
  • If you have provided us with an email address and you have overdue invoices, you will start to receive reminder notices directly to your email address
  • If you have not provided us with an email address, reminder notices for any overdue invoices will be posted to you.
Account Queries
  • If you are unable to pay your invoices before the due date or have a query about an invoice you have received, it is important that you contact us before the invoice is due for payment.
Payment Options

Beerwah State School is excited to offer all parents the ability to order and pay for your child’s school items using your smartphone, tablet or computer. The new Qkr! (pronounced ‘quicker’) by MasterCard application is a secure and easy way to make school payments at your convenience. We encourage all parents to use Qkr! as it reduces the need to send cash to school or attend in person, and receipts are automatically generated that can be easily retrieved on the app or sent to your email. It is easier for families and it also significantly streamlines operations with the school.  QKR How to Guide
  • QKR! is our preferred method for payment via the secure QKR! App.
  • You Can also pay via the secure BPoint  payment portal in QParents.
  • You can also pay via the BPoint link on the invoice you receive via email
  • Cashless payments can be made at the Payment Window by EFTPOS on Monday, Wednesday & Friday morning between 8:30am-10:30am
  • Students may hand permission & payment to the office in a sealed envelope or snaplock bag.

Home-School Communication

Please refer to the Communication Placemat available on our website to determine the appropriate method and avenue of communication for any information you require. If you are unsure, please email the school via admin@beerwahss.eq.edu.au and your query will be passed on to the appropriate staff member.

We welcome parents and other members of our diverse community into our school. Working together with the school community, school staff support the learning and wellbeing of every student, and are entitled to a safe work environment. Parents and other visitors to our school support safety by ensuring their communications and conduct at the school and school activities is respectful. Please read our Parent and Community Code of Conduct for more information.

Student Messages and Early Collection

We realise sometimes Parents need to get a message to student/s to change how they are going home, with whom, or need to collect student/s early. We ask Parents, where possible, to please contact the school at their earliest convenience prior to 1:00pm; to advise so messages can go out in rolls and minimise interruptions to class learning time.

Please call prior to arriving to collect student/s so we can have them in the office ready for your arrival. Our break times are 11:00am-11:30am & 1:00pm-1:40pm. We thank you for your support.

Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden

We are halfway through the term in our Kitchen Garden and students from 1J2 and 2/1B2 have been very busy! Cooking up a storm in our kitchen; using freshly picked herbs and vegetables from our garden, students are practicing and developing new skills in creating nutritious and delicious dishes. Green thumbs are out and ready for spring with new produce including some native raspberry, plum and mint planting this week! We have also been working up our appetites mulching, weeding and tending to our already established crop of cabbage, potatoes and snow peas. Well done to our hard working year 1 and 2 students, keep up the great work!

Volunteering

Did you know, volunteering Makes a Difference in your Child’s Education. Children whose parents are involved in their schools do better. Research has shown that children of a school volunteer make better grades and perform better on tests. They’re also better behaved, have better attendance, and are more likely to graduate and continue their education. The more parents participate at school, the more successful their children will be.

The P&C Association are now an approved volunteer organization with Centrelink (Services Australia) so if you need to complete volunteering hours, the school is a great option. Contact us by email and we can arrange to work out how we can help each other.

Specific volunteer needs:

- Father’s Day stall – 1 September 9-11am

- Car Boot Sale – 3 September 8-11am (or part thereof)

- Tuckshop assistance – Tuesday 10-11am (or earlier if possible)

- Meal Deal assistance – Thursday 9-11 (or part thereof)

Facebook Page

It’s wonderful to see so many new likes & followers on our Facebook page. It really is the best place to find out what’s going on & coming up.

If you haven’t got on board, look for our page and like us to keep up to date with everything P&C. BSS P&C Facebook Page

Events & Fundraising

The Father’s Day Stall will be in the Resource Centre, Multi-purpose room on Thursday, 1 September from 9-11am. Children will be brought to the library with their classes in turn so please make sure they have some cash to purchase something. Prices vary from $2 to $5 per item. Cards and gift bags are also available for $1 each.

The Pie Drive fundraiser has a few more days available to order, only available on Qkr!, this makes it so much easier for parents, pie makers & P&C. It is literally a few clicks to place your pie orders. Orders will close next Tuesday, 30 August with collection from school mid-September. The pies come from a local pie maker & are DELICIOUS! Reminders will be sent on Skoolbag & Facebook.

Car Boot Sale

Who needs a clean out of toys, books, clothes & household goods that are no longer used or wanted but too good to throw away? Then now is the time to gather up your things, put them into the back of your car and head to school on Saturday, 3 September to join others in our Car Boot Sale & Community Event. It’s only $20 per car which is cheaper than an ad for a garage sale & there will be plenty of shoppers eager to catch a bargain or

find some treasure, turn your unwanted goods into $$$. Call Carolyn on 0404 581058 to book a space before they all go!

We are still in need of volunteers for our Car Boot Sale & Community event on Saturday, 3 September, please contact P&C via our Facebook page or email pandc@beerwahss.eq.edu.au if you are able to assist.

Plants! As part of our community event, we are holding a plant sale to raise funds to purchase an oven for the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden. This is a vital piece of equipment required so your children can learn how to prepare meals, won’t it be great when they can cook your dinner? We are reaching out to parents and caregivers to donate a plant for the stall. If you have green thumbs, how about some cuttings from existing plants? We are also looking for attractive pots to use, any unused ceramic/terracotta pots would be wonderful for us to re-pot our cuttings into. Try saving your tin cans, decorating them and punching a few holes in the base before potting up some cuttings. Get creative and get planting!! One plant from each family please!

Baking!! Another stall at the Car Boot Sale will be a Bake Stall. We are asking parents to donate baked good to sell on the day. Please email P&C to advise what you will be baking & we can arrange drop-off times etc.

Working Bee

We have been very lucky to get some native plants through the Council’s environment levy and intend to plant during our next working bee which is scheduled for the 2nd Saturday of Term 4 (15 October) so mark it on your calendar.
