From the Leadership Team

It is already the time of the year we begin planning for next year. Teachers will shortly commence the process of class placements for  2019. Class placements take into consideration students’ learning styles and social/emotional needs, as well as groups they work well with. This takes time and a great deal of critical reflection on behalf of the teachers and SSOs as we consider all aspects of each child's placement.

Ultimately the responsibility of class placement rests with the school, but our choices are based on the shared wisdom between home and school.  Parents are welcome to write to leadership regarding particular learning needs or to inform us of additional information that we should have on record. However, please note that requests for or against particular teachers will not be taken into consideration.  Written information needs to be submitted to the leadership team by  Friday 16th of October 2020 (the end of Week 1 Term 4).

If your child/ren are NOT returning to Dernancourt next year, please reply via the eForm on the Skoolbag App or inform one of  the office staff.

Junior Jack Attack

Students in years 3-7 are currently participating in the Junior Jack Attack program. This is being run over 4 weeks using a grant we won through Sporting Schools Australia. During these lessons, the students are learning about lawn bowls and practising some skills in small groups, helping them to develop some of the basics involved. They are having a great time and discovering that it's harder than it looks!

We have applied for another grant for Term 4 which if successful, plan to use to introduce another sport to our R-2 students.

Walk Safely to School Day

National Walk Safely to School Day is on this Friday!!

Primary school-aged children across Australia will put their feet first this Friday, 11 September. The event aims to raise awareness of the benefits that regular walking can provide for the long term well-being of our children.

Now in its 21st year, the campaign also encourages improved diets, positive environmental action, better use of public transport with reduced car dependency and the vitally important road safety message: "Until they are 10, children must always hold the hand of an adult when crossing the road".
