Term 1 Week 4

Principal's Message

Greetings parents, carers and community members

Our Kindergarten students have completed 10 days of school as of this afternoon and they have settled in extremely well. They are forming lovely friendships, are successfully finding their way around the school and sat through their very first whole school assembly on Wednesday afternoon, demonstrating excellent behaviour. It is wonderful to have this new and youngest cohort join New Lambton Public School.

Although this is Week 4 of Term 1, our Year 1 - 6 students have almost been back at school for 3 weeks and the last two weeks they have settled into their new classrooms with their respective 2023 class teachers. This week parents and carers had the opportunity to meet their child's class teacher during our parent information sessions and should have also received a class newsletter from their child's teacher. If you did not receive a class newsletter, please contact the school office and request that one be sent home with your child.

Communication

SKOOLBAG

We are continuing to refine our lines of communication between home and school. We have moved away from our Sentral Parent Portal (which has proved unreliable in the past) and introduced SkoolBag as our preferred means of communication. General information will be sent out through SkoolBag. This is a free application (app) that you can download to your mobile device. Once you download the SkoolBag app you will need to:

  • add our school
  • subscribe to your child's grade group

to ensure you receive all relevant information and communication from the school. Parents and carers should have already received numerous messages from the school this year through the SkoolBag app.

STUDENT ABSENCES

Class rolls are marked shortly after students commence class at 9:20 am. If your child arrives at school after 9:20 am they should go to the office to get a late slip and then take this to their class teacher. If you know your child will be absent from school (e.g. attending an appointment) you can complete and submit the Absentee Form in SkoolBag. If your child is absent from school with no explanation, you will receive a text message indicating your child is absent. You can respond to this text message with a reason for your child's absence. If the school does not receive a response to the text message you will receive a letter requesting an explanation for your child's absence.

PERMISSIONS AND PAYMENTS

Permission notes are now sent to parents and carers electronically via email. This enables you to sign the permission note on your device/digitally and if payment is required, there will be a clickable link available enabling you to pay online.

CONTACTING THE SCHOOL

If you wish to contact the school for any reason, please use one of the following options:

  • Phone call to the office: (02) 4957 1511
  • Email to the school: newlambton-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au
  • Complete the relevant form through SkoolBag

Week 4 Assembly

This week we held our first school assembly with all students from Kindergarten to Year 6 in attendance. Our 2023 student leaders did an impressive job of running their first assembly, working collaboratively to support each other and demonstrating all of the admirable leadership qualities they were recognised for when elected by their peers.

I will leave you now with some photos taken of our leaders and merit award recipients at this week's assembly.

Yours in public education,

Justine Abell

Sports Wrap

Swimming Carnival

On Thursday 9 February New Lambton Public School held our annual swimming carnival at The Forum. Wearing their sporting house colours and led by their newly-appointed house captains and vice captains, students swam, cheered and displayed excellent sportsmanship over the whole day.

We would like to thank our community for turning up to support our students as they really added to the awesome atmosphere of The Forum spectators section.

The points have been added up and all awards will be presented at the swimming carnival presentation during Semester One.

We have 17 students who have qualified for the Newcastle City PSSA Swimming Carnival to be held at The Forum on Friday 24 February. Congratulations to all competitors and best of luck to our representative swimmers.

P&C Update

Welcome back for 2023!

A huge welcome to our new families! We hope that you enjoy being a part of our school community as much as we do. P&C is a great way to get involved in the school community, hear about what is going on in our school and meet some of the parents.

We’d love to see you at one of our P&C meetings, which are held the 3rd Monday of each month at 7pm in the staffroom. The first meeting for 2023 will be held on Monday, 20th February. We always hear from the principal, Ms Abell, and working out the events that we would like to hold this year and talking about the D Block playground.

You can join the P&C through the Mastercard Qkr! app for $1. Our AGM is held in March every year. All roles are declared vacant at this time. If you are interested in taking on a role, particularly treasurer or secretary, please get in touch so we can have a chat about what the roles entails.

We have a Facebook page where you can keep up to date with all things P&C, or you can email us: kfrankiewicz82@gmail.com
