Principal's Message

Congratulations to Room 22 for their wonderful hosting of our last assembly! We enjoyed the roleplays and the important messages that were shared. It was wonderful to have all our students together and to be able to address the school as a whole. Thank you to the P&C for supporting our award winners with a morning tea for them and their parents/carers.

I would like to welcome back Mr Simon Lyons and Mrs Kathryn Offer who are taking on relief roles within the school. We are certainly excited to have them on board. We are currently seeking to fill various roles throughout the school and have these positions advertised on jobswa. If you are interested in Education Assistant roles, IT Administrator or cleaning; please get in touch.

It has certainly been a busy two weeks with normal teaching and learning programs, swimming lessons for our Year 3-6 students and Newman Primary School hosting professional learning for the Karijini network of schools. I, once again, am in awe of our staff and the effort they give to make our students time at Newman Primary School a positive, educative and rewarding one.

Next week we will be hosting NAPLAN with our Year 3 and 5 students. Assessments will occur on Wednesday and Thursday. Friday is the Year 3-6 Swimming Carnival, and the remaining assessments will be completed early the following week. We are proud of all the preparation that has gone into organising this and our students have done a wonderful job in familiarising themselves with the online platform.

Please assist us by informing the school if your child is unwell and not able to come to school. If it is an extended absence due to a necessary, trip away please make an appointment to discuss. Holidays and travel are regarded by the Department as unauthorised absences.

Together we Grow!

What's been happening in Room 22

Room 22 has had a great start to the year! The students enjoyed creating their assembly item and writing their own skits and song about our Newman Primary School values. In preparation for their assembly, students went out to interview and collect data on our values and what they mean to our Newman Primary School staff and students. It was a great experience for the Year 6’s to learn how these values are understood and demonstrated from Kindy all the way up to our Principal.

Another highlight in Room 22 is our class Battleship tournament. Students have been learning about Cartesian Planes and applying this knowledge to play the game Battleships. Students were organised in head-to-head knock out match ups, with the winners going on to verse each other for the overall Battleship Tournament Championship. We’re currently in the semi-finals with only one game left before the final match up!

What's been happening in Room 10

In Room 10, we enjoy playing different Maths games to help us consolidate the concepts we have been learning. Some of the games are subitising using dice, representing numbers using objects or pictures, writing numbers 1 - 100 in order and making pictures using shapes as we continue to explore the properties of 2D shapes.

We have also explored what it means to be a good friend to help us build a sense of belonging to our class as we settle into Year 1 and Pre-Primary. We celebrated our new friendships by dancing and singing along to a song called ‘The More We Get Together’ for our school assembly performance.
