Newman Primary School

Newsletter: Term 2 Issue 4

Principal's Message

I thank our wonderful student leadership group, under the direction of Mrs Hudson, for running such an organised assembly for the start of Term 2! It was fantastic to see so many students recognised for their hard work and personal attributes that contribute to our wonderful school.

It has been a very busy number of weeks since our last newsletter. Our staff have been undertaking many different Professional Learning opportunities including TeachWell, Mathematics under Paul Swan, Pilbara Language Leadership and Autism Support Teacher. I thank them for their continued professionalism and hard work for all our students.

Each family would have received a link to our yearly parent survey over the last two weeks. The results of the School Culture Survey for 2023 will help us to review our practices and plan future improvements. Every opinion is highly valued and our school staff as well as the Board will be reviewing the results.

At the end of last term, our selected Year 3-6 students participated in the Newman Interschool Swimming Carnival. We had a very successful event with many champions, great sportsmanship and won champion school for the first time in 17 years. Well done to all the students and staff who attended under the direction of Mr Chappelow.

We are continuing to see a large number of students arriving at school before 7.45am in the morning and there have been some reported near misses in our carpark. We have spoken to students about this at school and we encourage the conversation at home re road safety and school opening times. From 7.45am, we provide supervision in the undercover area before students move to classes at 8am. In our ECE area, supervision is provided by parents until drop off to the classroom doors at 8am. We thank you for your support.

Newman primary School is committed to providing quality education to all students in a safe, inclusive and caring learning environment. We value working together with parents and families as critical partners in student learning outcomes. Effective communication is the key to building a positive relationship between home and school, and plays an important part in the education of your child. You should feel confident that we will listen and respond to your concerns, and effectively manage and resolve complaints.

Issues may arise during your child’s schooling and these are more productively resolved if you raise them with the school directly, as early as possible. If you are not sure who to speak to, you can start with your child’s teacher. For some matters, it may be appropriate to talk directly to our administration team.

Inter School Swimming Carnival 2023

The Inter School Swimming Carnival was held on Friday 31 March and the Newman Primary Interschool team marched to the Aquatic centre with winning on their mind. Our school competed with excellent sportsmanship and pride, and everyone should be proud of their effort.  A big thank you to the staff and families who support the students on the day. It has been 17 years since Newman Primary has hoisted the shield above their heads. Congratulations to the team on a great win.
