WELCOME TO OUR NEW LOOK NEWSLETTER

Welcome to our new look, new way of delivering school news and important business to our school community and beyond.  This is a work in progress and will only get better as time goes on.   Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, any family members are welcome to download the Skoolbag app onto their phones to be able to access KWDHS information and important events.

TEACH LEARN GROW ("TLG") SUMMER PROGRAM

This week KWDHS is excited to have a lovely group of university volunteers from the Teach Learn Grow ("TLG") Summer Program visiting our school who will be working with 54 of our primary students between Years 1 and 6.  TLG is a non-for-profit organisation that provides free one-on-one tuition and mentoring to students in rural and remote parts of Western Australia.

Both the TLG volunteers and our students are enjoying engaging in a range of different activities around the primary site.   Below are just a few photos from these activities.  Wednesday morning they helped out in our Breakfast Club.

From our Acting Principal: Mrs Candice Brown

Mrs Delfs has headed off overseas and is currently enjoying herself in Italy. We are all a little jealous!

I am very excited to be at Kambalda West for the remainder of the year. Everyone has been extremely welcoming and the children have enthusiastically shown me their REACH values. I have been impressed with the politeness and kindness the students are so willing to give.

It’s been an exciting two weeks so far with two excursions; the Year 7s and 8s heading into Kalgoorlie to the museum and the Leadership group today enjoying a fun day after their year of hard work. Next week we look forward to the Presentation Day. There will be a family sausage sizzle afterward in the Secondary Quad where I hope to meet many families – don’t forget to RSVP on the Skoolbag App. I am also really looking forward to sharing the Graduation Dinner with the Year 10 students next Friday night.

I think Mrs Delfs will be a little jealous because I played pirates with the PrePrimary students and today, I got to taste the delicious hamburger cooked by the Year 9s in Home Ec.

The School Board has endorsed the Contributions and Charges as well as the 2019 Booklists. Please keep an eye out on Skoolbag as they will be posted there. If you need assistance downloading Skoolbag, please call the office.

Parents are encouraged to say hello in the playground, before and after school.

A small group of our male Year 10 students are participating in Movember.    Over the past couple of weeks they have been growing their facial hair and together with the remainder of the Leadership students have been fundraising along the way.

Movember - CUPCAKE STALL

On 2nd November the Leadership students held a Cupcake stall to raise money for Movember.

They worked extremely hard preparing over 200 cupcakes for their stall which they held at recess.

They raised $167.50

EARLY CHILDHOOD NATURE PLAY AREA

Early childhood staff and parents got busy on Tuesday after school creating a nature play area for the early childhood classes.  We look forward to following the progress of this play area.

Museum Excursion - Ancient Rome : The Empire that Shaped The World

On Wednesday, 21st November our Year 7 & 8 students hopped on a bus and headed into Kalgoorlie to the museum to take a look around the Ancient Rome exhibit.

The students found the exhibit fascinating, educational and exciting.  They tried on various costumes and battle gear that ancient Roman people would have worn.

2019 Year 7 Transition

For the past two weeks on a Wednesday Kambalda Primary Year 6 students and our Year 6 students have been participating in a transition morning to introduce them to the world of high school.  The students have had a taste of a secondary timetable wherein they have had to move classes for different subjects.    Below are some photos of their Home Economics experiences.
