Thank you to all the staff who organised and supervised the students for the day.

Congratulations to Lara F for coming runner up in Regional South Operational Directorate Primary Schools Public Speaking competition Grand Final last week.

Absences

Thank you to the parents and carers who have called the school office, emailed the school or sent a written note explaining the reason/s for your child being away. Under the Department of Education, it is a legal requirement to provide an explanation to the school stating the reasons why your child was absent from school. If a student is absent on a regular basis, under Department of Education guidelines we are required to monitor the non-attendance, record it onto our data base and work with you to improve your child’s attendance.

If your child returns to school and the class teacher or the school has not received a reason for your child’s absence within a few days, the class teacher will send a reminder note (please see the sample). Please give a detailed explanation on the reason why your child was away and return it with your child to give to their class teacher.

When your child returns back to school, it is important to write an explanation note, contact the school or use the SkoolBag app explaining their absences, rather than wait for the reminder note.

Kindergarten Transition

All of our staff have been working tirelessly to organise engaging class programs, as well as develop Kindergarten Orientation and Transition programs. The Kindergarten transition program will occur on 31 October & 1 November and continue on 7 & 8 November 2019 from 9.30am to 11am. Please be aware there will be increased traffic with new parents and pre-kindergarten students at these times.

Swim scheme

Swim scheme will start 11th November 2019. Each child should bring a swimming costume, towels (2), hat and fruit break in a small bag. Ensure all clothing and towels are labelled with your child’s name. It is recommended that students use adequate sun protection; a rash shirt is also recommended.

Students will be assessed during the School Swimming and Water Safety Program for all water safety skills without wearing goggles.

Important School Information

2020 OPAL school travel applications now open

To assist with any enquiries you may receive regarding student travel applications, we have provided some information below.

Applications for student travel in 2020 opened on Friday, 11 October 2019.

Students progressing to year 3 and year 7 no longer need to re-apply if they:

·         are continuing at the same school

·         are residing at the same address

·         have not been sent an expiry notification from Transport for NSW.

Where a student meets the new distance eligibility, the system will automatically update their entitlement. If they do not meet the new eligibility, they will receive an expiry notification via email.

Students who have an entitlement approved under a medical condition which is due to expire will receive a notification advising them to re-apply.

If students need to update their information or re-apply, they should go online to https://apps.transport.nsw.gov.au/ssts/updateDetails

Applications need to be submitted before 31 December 2019 to ensure student entitlements are updated and their current entitlement/card is not cancelled. If their application is submitted after 31 December 2019, the system will automatically cancel an entitlement/card and a new one will need to be issued.
