Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been a wonderful and busy end of Term 3. There is a lot to celebrate and recognise the achievements of students and the school. Congratulations to all the students who participated in and were representatives for either the Spelling Bee, Public Speaking, dancing, University competitions, gala day, excursions and Kindy orientation night. It has been a very busy time for our students, staff and community. A big thank you to teachers, staff, parent volunteers and the P&C for the planning, organisation and the long hours that they have all put in to make all of these events successful!
Being a good role model for our children
I ask parents and carers to use the new crossing on Barley Road, as this will reinforce to students the importance of following road rules and being safe.
Similarly, I encourage all drivers to drive at the 40km speed limit or less around the school and not be tempted to speed when running late. There are students who walk to school who also may be late and cross the roads at various points around the school. It is important that drivers understand that safety of all pedestrians is paramount!
It is important for parents and carers to follow the school’s procedures of seeing the teacher on duty in the morning assembly area or in afternoon at dismissal time if they feel a student/s are not following the expectations of the school. Approaching another child or a group of students in the playground to try to rectify behaviour is unacceptable, and in fact, is against Department of Education policy. Similarly, openly discussing concerns about an individual teacher, student or other families on the school grounds, in public places or on social media is unacceptable, unproductive and is against school and Department of Education policy.

If your child has friendship issues, try to provide them with strategies and solutions so that they may be able to build resilience and problem solving skills. These skills are very valuable and will not only assist your child in their current dispute but will be a skill set they will be able to build upon during their life. In the event that they are unable to adequately resolve the issue with their peers or any other issue, please refer to the teacher on duty or classroom teacher who will be able to follow up and if necessary, they will work with the executive team to find a positive outcome.
Spring Farm Public School’s vision is directly aligned with the values of NSW Public Schools. We are all working to make the school a welcoming and tolerant place and it is important that we all demonstrate to our students and young people how to be respectful, be sagacious and be a problem solver; skills that are all necessary for life.

The Information Handbook on the school’s website contains the code of conduct for all members of the local community as well as the Department of Education Code of Conduct.

Sickness
The school has experienced a number of students who have been absent from school due to sickness. Thank you for keeping your children home to recover. Please ensure that all absences are explained in detail via the skool bag app or school email. Students who have three or more consecutive days require a doctor’s certificate so that their absences can be justified.
At the same time, a number of staff have been sick and the school puts in every effort to find casual teachers. Sometimes the pool of casual teachers has been limited and the school has not been able to find a replacement which has led to classes being split among other stages. This allows students numbers to be more manageable within each class.
NAPLAN
NAPLAN results have been released to our school this week. Parents/carers of students in Year 3 and Year 5 will be receiving their individual NAPLAN results. As a school, we are in the process of conducting a thorough analysis into the results.
Tell Them From Me
We will shortly be sending out information and inviting all parents within our community to participate in the Tell Them From Me Parent Survey. The survey is designed to measure, assess and report insights from a parent's point of view of our school culture. The focus of this NSW survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices.
Term 4 start
Students return to school for Term 4 Monday 14 October 2019.
